A's ADVANCE TO SEMIS

The A's advanced past the Cutters, behind a complete game effort from Kyle Breidenstine, who yielded just 1 run on 5 hits while striking out 5.

The A's struck for two runs in the second inning. Brett O'Keefe led off with a single and advanced to second on an error. With two outs, Matt Asdornvuttikrai ripped a double off the wall to drive in the first run.

Warren Asdornvuttikrai then got into a rundown after an infield popup, which allowed his brother Matt to scramble home for the second run of the game.

The Cutters threatened in the 5th. Jeff Coveney, Dana Levensaler, and Steve Wigmore led off with three singles. Ryan Bere then hit a sacrifice fly to cut the lead in half. But Breidenstine escaped by striking out the next batter and inducing a groundout for the third out.

In the 6th and the 7th, Breidenstine sat down the Cutters with back-to-back 1-2-3 innings to send the A's to the semis.

A's TAKE GAME 1

The Cutters jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after a leadoff single from Ryan Bere, who later scored on Jay Thomas base knock.

The A's took the lead in 3rd and never relinquished it. Brian Balise led off with a single. Paul Mahoney sacrified Balise to second. Alan Donaruma hit a single. And Rob Muollo walked. Bo McIntyre then hit a grand slam to bring in all 4 A's runs.

That was all Brett O'Keefe needed. He allowed just 5 hits and struck out 6 on the way to the complete game win.

McIntyre went 2-3 with a homerun and a double. Donaruma finished 2-2. Bere led the Cutters' offense with a 2-3 night, including a double.

Game 2 is Friday night at Nipper in Waltham.

Facing playoff elimination, the Cutters were down to their final 3 outs of the season losing 1-0. With 1st and 2nd in the 7th, a misplayed double play ball turned into a run to tie the game.

In the bottom of the 8th, Brett Manley delivered in walkoff style by roping a triple to LF to score Dana Levansaler from 1st.

Dan Wilson got the No decision while striking out 15 in 7 innings. Brian Rosinski pitched the 8th to earn the W. Tim Varakis had a multihit gm.

The Cutters hung around after the game while waiting for the Red Sox/Spinners results which also went to extras. A Red Sox loss gave the Cutters the last playoff seed as the Cutters had to win 3 of their last 4 games to make the playoffs.

Offensively, the Cutters broke out out for 12 runs over the the first 4 innings. Rookie Joe Sabitino struck out 13 of 15 batters and took a no-hitter into the 5th before it was broken up by the Os Lussier with 2-outs. MacDonald, Tejada and Coveney had multihit games.

The Spinners widened their first place lead with a 4-1 win over the Cutters in Malden. Mike Navarro had two hits and drove in a run, while Peter Allain hit a triple and scored twice. Luc Kocher pitched four innings, giving up one run on three hits while striking out five. Dan Blum pitched two innings in relief and Pat Clapp came in for the save.

Four Cutters had hits in the losing effort.

The Orioles bats came out of cold thaw and rookie Kenny Manero threw a gem to spark the O's to victory. Manero threw 6 innings, striking out 6 and allowing only 1 (unearned) run. Luis Leon led the offense with two booming doubles.

The Cutters and As play another xtra inning gem with the Cutters edging the As 3-2 in 8 innings backed a 4-hit performance by Rob MacDonald who also led the Cutters on the hill.

Brendan Huber and MacDonald battled it out on the hill through 7 innings in a 1-1 game.

In the top of the 8th, Rob Muollo had clutch 2-out RBI to give the As the lead. In the bottom of the 8th, a Ryan Bere walk and singles by Mike Galvin and McDonald loaded the bases. After a Jeff Coveney RBI single to tie the game, Mayor Steve Walsh walked off the win with a walk.

The Giants continue to keep pace with the Spinners, improving their record to 13-2 with a win over the Cutters. The Giants took a 3 run lead in the first and never looked back, as Phil Carignan held the Cutters to just a single unearned run over 6 innings. The Cutters offense was by no means anemic, posting 9 hits over those six innings, but a combination of 7 strikeouts from Carignan and 2 outfield assists from Tom Plumitallo and Jared Walsh was enough to hold them to just a single run.

The Giants will look to pull away in the standings next week as they face off against the Spinners this Sunday and the As on Tuesday.

The Spinners made it three wins in a row with a 2-0 win over the Cutters. Luc Kocher pitched five shutout innings, giving up for hits while striking out five. Dan Blum pitched in relief for an inning and Pat Clapp picked up the save.

The lone runs came for Cambridge in the fifth, when Greg Megerdichian singled and later scored on a Matt Gioia single. Bob Maccioli reached base in the same inning on a hit by pitch and later scored on an Isaac Valdiviezo single.

Four Cutters had singles in the losing effort. They loaded the bases in their half of the fifth but the Spinners defense kept them off the board.

Rookie Brian Rosinski dominates with a complete game, 2 hit shutout while piling up 11 K's and no walks. Was a nothing nothing game til bottom 6 where a Dana Levensaler double cleared the bases and that was plenty for Rosinski.

Newcomer Mike Galvin earned a victory in his first Cutters start allowing 1ER over 4.1 innings of work. The Cutters scored 5 in the first but the Giants fought back to cut the lead to 5-3. The Cutters added 2 runs of insurance in the top of the 7th. Joe Perna earned the save.

A's come back three times to win in 13.

With the A's down 4-2 heading into the 7th, Matt O'Keefe hit a two-run home run to knot the game.

In the 11th, the Cutters exploded for 5 runs, sparked by a Hovaseprien triple and singles from Levensaler, MacDonald, Thomas, and Coveney.

In the bottom of the 11th, the A's got five runs of their own, which included hits from Muollo, Mahoney, Tessari, O'Keefe, Krall, and Warren Asdornvuttikrai.

In the 13th, Levensaler singled and was brought home on a Thomas single.

But once again the A's rallied. Muollo led off with a double and scored on a Tessari single. Tessari then scored the winning run on a Donaruma fielder's choice.

A's over Cutters, 6-3

Kyle Breidenstine threw 6 innings for the W. The Cutters threatened all night, tallying 9 hits, but the A's defense came up clutch, making no errors and turning 3 double plays to stifle the Cutters rallies.

The A's showed some extra base power, tallying 3 EBH's. Jordan Krall led the way with a triple, going 3-3 for 2 RBI. Nick Barton and Will Wilde also hit doubles for th A's.

For the Cutters, Rob MacDonald continued to hit well, going 2-3 on the night.

The Spinners advanced to 4-0 on the season with a 6-2 win over the Cutters Thursday night. Down 2-0 in the fifth, the Spinners scored six unanswered runs on the field where they clinched last year's championship the previous September.

Peter Alain and David Peretti scored two runs apiece, while Isaac Valdiviezo, Mike Tufo and Colin Sullivan each had two hits. Luc Kocher came on in relief to pitch three innings of shutout ball with five strikeouts. Pat Clapp came on in the seventh to close out the game.

Jay Thomas had three hits for the Cutters and scored a run, while Ryan Bere added a hit and a run of his own in the losing effort.

The Giants start the season 2-0 behind 5 strong innings from Jared Walsh. Phil Carignan picked up the 6 out save in his first MABL appearance and added an RBI single in the 2nd.

Paul Branche and Zac Stiffler stayed hot each adding an RBI while Tom Plumitallo drove in 2 on a single in the 3rd. Dave Clarke continued to shine scoring 2 runs with 2 hits from the leadoff spot.

The Giants will be back in action 11 days from now when they take on the A's.

Mike Cole went the distance on Opening Day for the Dodgers, carrying a no-hitter into the 7th inning. Cole struck out 8 in a dominant performance from the mound. The Dodgers got all of their offense during a fifth inning rally capped by a triple blasted down the right field line by left fielder Evan Ordway. Leadoff batter Brandon Linton added two hits to the Dodgers attack. Dodgers win 5-0 at their new home field of Newton South High School.
