Braves ride the herculean pitching performance from Mike Smith to win game 5 to take the series 3-2 over Stoneham. Smith went all 11 innings, over 2 days, scattering 8 hits, allowing only an unearned run and striking out 10.

In the 6th Chetelat drove one out to center allowing Uberti to tag from 3rd who had tripled to deep right. Lenane doubled in the bottom half, advancing to 3rd on a PB. Adams drove a ball out to left, Lenane started home and stopped but the cutoffs throw went to the backstop allowing Lenane to score. Game was suspended after 9 due to darkness.

Play resumed on Monday with no action in the 10th. Braves bats woke up in the 11th as they scored 7 runs on 6 hits including a McLaughlin double, Chetelat intentional walk, Robb RBI single, Botelho 2-run single, Glantz RBI double, capped off by a Uberti a 2-run double.

Congratulations to Angelo Colucci and the Stoneham Sabers on a great season and a hard fought series.

Dave Montiverdi pitches a complete game 2 hitter to force game 5

Montiverdi went the distance, letting up 2 runs, 1 earned on 2 hits, striking out 4 to earn the win.

The Sabers would strike first with a 2 RBI single by Flanagan to plate Pizarro and Lenane early.

Stoneham would then add 6 huge runs in the 2nd to put the game out of reach. Creamer, Pizarro, Lenane, Luciano, Adams and Colucci would all reach base and score. Adams pitched in wth a 2 RBI single and Cave and Creamer would have a RBI each.

Defusco had a RBI single in the 2nd for the Braves and Lee would score on a passed ball in the 6th, but would not be enough for Brighton.

A semi-final birth is on the line tomorrow afternoon as the Sabers host the Braves at Recreation Park. First pitch 5PM!

Greeley throws 4.1 strong allowing 4 hits and 3 runs as the Braves take game 3 to go up 2-1 in the series.

Braves take an early lead thanks to 2-run (1st) and 1-run (3rd) singles from Uberti and back to back ground rule doubles by Glantz (1 RBI) and Joyce (2 RBI) in the 3rd. They add 3 more in the 4th and 5th on some uncharacteristic errors from the Sabers defense.

Sabers battle back adding 2 in the 5th (Creamer grounder, Pizarro single) and 3 the next frame on 3 straight hits by Adams, Colucci and Flanagan (RBI), Rice RBI grounder and a Creamer single.

Chetelat allowed a walk, hit and run in the 7th but otherwise settled down to close things out and earn the save.

Web gem of the night goes to Sabers leftfielder Johnny Cave. Chetelat launched a 420 ft bomb, Cave immediately turned and ran, tracked it down and made a leaping, full-extension grab just shy of the light tower saving 2 or 3 runs. Truly just a spectacular catch

Sabers come from behind to even the best of 5 series at 1 game a piece.

Dion tossed 5 solid innings letting up 3 runs, while striking out 6 to earn the win.

In the 3rd, the Braves would strike first on a passed ball to score Defusco. Followed by a RBI single by Tracy.

In the bottom half the Sabers would plate 2 of their own. Lenane would smash a ground rule double to get him and Curtin in scoring position. Luciano would then hit a RBI single and Adams would get the ball in play for a RBI of his own.

In the 5th Glantz would put the Braves back up with a RBI single. Creamer would later throw out Tracy at the plate for the play of the game.

The Sabers would respond with 2 big runs in the bottom half. Lenane would tie the game with a RBI single and Adams would chip it into left field for the game winning hit.

Corey McNamara would come in and earn the 6 out save for the Sabers.

Kennedy Smith pitched well in the loss

Smith strikes out 12 allowing just 2 hits and an unearned run as the Braves take game 1 against Stoneham.

Both teams trade unearned runs in the 1st. Glantz scores on an overthrow in the top half while Adams doubles in Luciano after he reached on a dropped pop-up.

A controversial call goes against the Sabers in the 3rd as Lenane drives one deep down the left field line for what appeared to be a go-ahead homer but it was ruled foul by the home plate umpire.

Braves load the bases with no outs in the 5th but only manage to plate 2 on a Robb walk and a McLaughlin single. Smith shuts the door the rest of the way including striking out the side in the 7th.

Web gem of the night goes to Stoneham's Pazzaro. In the 5th with the bases loaded and playing in, he lays out in the hole robbing Uberti and throwing home to get Lee to save at least one run, probably 2.

Teams travel to Twi Field in Danvers on Wednesday for game 2, 7:30 start

Sabers defeat the Rockies 6-5 to end the regular season and tie a franchise best with 23 wins

The Rockies would take two early one run leads on a Santosuosso single and Iafolla solo shot to center. Adams chipped in with a RBI single early for Stoneham.

After starting the 6th with two outs, Flanagan, O'Brien and Cave would hit back to back to back singles to load the bases. Rice and Pizarro would draw two big RBI walks and the Sabers would take the lead. Leanane would then smash a bases clearing double to break the game open.

The Rockies would battle back, but McNamara would come in and close out the game to earn the save. Despite giving up five runs Zampell pitched well for Stoneman and earned the win.

Colucci would record his 200th career YBL hit for Stoneham.

Sam Cummings' brilliant performance helps the Sabers get past the Maddogs 2-1 in extra innings

Cummings threw an 8 inning complete game scattering 2 hits, while letting up 1 run, no earned, while striking out 10 Maddogs to earn his 4th win of the season.

Malden would get on the board first with a bases loaded RBI bunt by Maltzan in the 3rd.

It would stay that way all the way until the 7th with the Sabers down to their last out. Luciano and Adams would draw two key walks. When Colucci would follow with a clutch game tying RBI single to left field to score the pinch running Creamer to send the game to extras for the 2nd time in a week between the two teams.

With runners on 1st and 2nd in extras, the Maddogs would throw the ball away on a failed double play attempt on Pizarro, allowing Flanagan to score the winning run.

Colucci led the Saber offense with 3 hits, 2 doubles and a RBI.

Tommy Lenane got his first career YBL start and did not disappoint. Lenane tossed 4 innings of no hit baseball until he scattered 5 hits through 6 innings, letting up 1 earned while striking out 3 A's to earn the win.

Jhonal Contreras would close out the game in the 7th.

Kevin Luciano led the Saber offense with 3 hits, a home run a triple and 6 RBI.

Colucci and Quezada also had 3 hits for Stoneham.

Lambert had a RBI single for the A's.

The Sabers sent Cummings, Lumb, Dion, Montiverdi and McNamara to the mound to scatter 6 hits on 1 run, while striking out 3 Alibrandis in a solid effort by the pitching staff.

Braves bounce back with a big win over Stoneham. Kennedy-Smith, making an emergency start on short rest, comes up huge limiting the Sabers to 3 hits in 5.2 innings.

Sabers jump out in front in the 1st as Pizarro gets hit by a pitch, steals second and Adams knocks him in. Braves answer in the bottom half with 4 runs on 6 hits, including RBIs from Tracy, McLaughlin and Uberti (2).

Sabers score again in the 2nd after a Quezada single, stolen base and a Curtain RBI double.

Braves add one in the 4 when Lee singles in McLaughlin.

In the 6th, Kennedy-Smith gets 2 quick outs but walks the next 2. Smith then comes in for the 4-out save. Colucci grounds one in the hole to right to score Flanagan from 2nd.

Smith shuts the door in the 7th with a grounder and 2 strikeouts.

Web gem of the night goes to Stoneham's Ryan Flanagan who laid out in shallow short, of the softball diamond, to rob Billy Uberti of extra bases.

Mike Bonner, Danny Lumb and Greg Dubela combined for 3 shutout innings to end the game.

The Dodgers got out to an early 2-0 lead on RBIs by Yee and Hodor.

In the 3rd, the Sabers would tie the game with RBIs by Flanagan and Adams. Colucci's then hit a RBI single to put the Sabers ahead for good. Quezada would then follow with a clutch bases clearing 3RBI triple to seal the deal.

Pizarro had 3 hits and Colucci and Quezada had 2 hits a piece for Stoneham.

Cady had two hits for the Dodgers.

Black Sox score 3 runs in top of seventh to pick up the 4-1 win over Stoneham.

Sox get one run in first on a De La Cruz triple and Hopwood single. The game remained 1-0 until the sixth. Stoneham tied the game in the bottom of the sixth when Colucci scored on a passed ball with two out.
In the top of the seventh, the Sox load the bases with one out, on a Tonies single, Varakis walk and De La Cruz single. The Sox get the go ahead run on an infield single by Hopwood. Then plate two more on O'Neil's single.

Nicholson pitched five shut out innings, before giving way to Filipowicz who would get the win.

Cummings would bring a no hitter into the 5th inning until it was broken up with a hit that blooped over the second basemen's head. It was the only hit Cummings gave up all afternoon, as he struck out 6 Townies to earn his first win of the season.

Dave Monteverdi would then come in to earn the 3 out save.

The Sabers got on the board early with an RBI double by Tommy Lenane and a balk allowed Lenane to later score.

The Sabers would scrap an insurance run in the 5th. Sean Curtin would steal third base and score on the over throw.

Townies hurler Noah Zavolas would settle down after the 1st inning and be the tough luck loser as he scattered 6 hits and struck out 6.

Colucci, Adams and O'Brien launch back to back to back home runs as the Sabers defeat the Saints 15-7

Stoneham would get on the board early with RBIs by Lenane and Luciano. But, the Saints would come back with 3 of their own.

In the 4th, the Sabers would take a 2 run lead on hits by Pizarro and Lenane. Angelo Colucci would then come up and launch a 3 run homer over the left field fence. Travis Adams would then follow with a solo shot to right field of his own. Eric O'Brien would get in on the fun and put it over the left field fence himself to make it 3 consecutive homers for the Sabers. It was the first time the Sabers have ever had consecutive homers in a game.

Joey Zampell got the ball for the Sabers. Zampell tossed 4 strong innings, letting up 1 run on 3 hits.

Rookie and Stoneham native Danny Lumb would come in and pick up his first career YBL win, pitching 2 shutout innings.

The Astros would strike first on a Chris Deane sac fly to break the dead lock in the 4th.

In the bottom half, Dionys Quezada would match Deane with a sac fly of his own to score Angelo Colucci.

In the 5th Luis Rodriquez would reach base and Sean Curtin would bunt for a hit to put runners on the corners. Rodriquez would then score on a wild pitch to put the Sabers up for good.
