Neil Doherty Chancelled the Marlins to a do-or-die victory Sunday morning at West Roxbury High. Doherty allowed only six singles and walked none en route to a complete game, 62 pitch shutout. The victory forced a decisive Game 3 on Wednesday night. The Marlins' scintillating franchise record vs. the Yanks now stands at 1-11.

The Fish scored three times in the first thanks to Al Becker and Kit Kadlec RBI singles, then ran the score to 4-0 on a Mike Mori second inning single. Andy Herr added three hits and an RBI of his own, and Pat Allen picked up a pinch hit RBI single late in the game.

For the Yankees, AJ Bucciarelli was 2-3 and played his usual stellar defense at 2nd.

Doherty and Defense (duh...)

One for the ages. Kadlec vs Gauvin and it lived up to the hype. Gauvin allowed only a single hit to Bracco in the fifth. He fanned 14 on the night and was incredible with his control and mixing his pitches. Kit matched Gauvin pitch for pitch (8 K's) until the bottom of the ninth when Stef singled to left to begin the inning. Kadlec was relieved by Brennan. Mike Maloney then singled to right and both runners moved up on the throw back into the infield. Galehouse was walked intentionally to load the bases, then Kowalski hit a sac fly to deep center to score Steffanides to end a tremendously well played game. Both teams had chances but the pitching was that good.

Led by a terrific performance by Quinn Ryan (6IP, 0ER, 8K, 4 assists), the Yankees defeated the Royals at Chelsea HS. Ryan improved to 6-2 on the season.

Offensively, the Yankees were led by an ageless Frank Kowalski, who put on a baserunning clinic to go with his contributions at the plate (2-3, BB, 3R, 2SB). Colin Levesque also chipped in w. a 2-4 effort.

Royals starter Martin Minns kept the Yankees off balance most of the night, only allowing 3ER in a complete game effort.

AJ 'Gollum/Booch/Schmeagol/Timay/Sean Magee Lover' Bucciarelli offset his 0-4 at the plate with some outstanding base coaching.

Ryan hurls a gem, Kowalski paces the Yankees offense, 'Booch being Booch'

Ken Kilduff earns his 7th win tossing 5 innings of shutout ball. Mike Moloney's 2 out, 2 run single in the top of the 1st would give the Yanks all the runs they would need. Kyle Philson had two hits including a would-be homerun that turned into a double thanks to the left field tree at Chelsea HS.

The heart attack 'stros pulled out the win tonight in a wild extra inning game against the Yanks. Mike Vernon got the start and pitched very well through seven innings. He got a ND but won the game on a sac fly in the seventh to score Jesse Peterson (double) for his third RBI of the night. In extra innings, Sean Kennedy rescued the Astros from almost certain defeat with the most clutch pitching performance of the season. The Yankees had the bases loaded and nobody out with a 1-0 count on the batter in the bottom of the eighth. Tony Faber had to leave the mound (and eventually the game) due to an arm injury. Kennedy retired the side in order and closed it out in the ninth after the Astros took the lead. The Yankees played a great game. Starter Tim Troville pitched very well after a rocky start and Quinn Ryan, who pitched a CG this past weekend, took the loss in a gutsy relief effort.
