FOXBORO -- After an exhausting journey south, the Giants appeared simply too tired to swing their bats and were mowed down in short order by Jared Clement. A couple of two out rallies by the Mariners provided enough offense for the win and more importantly a playoff birth.

The Braves did all the damage they would need in the first inning. After Derick MacDowell (1-2; 2RBI, 2SB) knocked in the first two runs, the Braves would not need anymore offense while shutting out the Giants.

The Bucs offense continued their merciless onslaught of Giants pitching in the second game of Sunday's double header. Veteran Jory Curran lead the offense going 2 for 3 with a double. Rookie Nate Fishman got the start for the Pirates and was opposed by Brandon Dooley. Fishman shined, pitching a complete game two-hitter without letting a ball out of the infield until the 6th inning. He compiled a final line of 7 IP, 2 H, 1 R (0 ER), and 11Ks to secure the Pirates 7th win of the season. The Pirates next opponent will be the Thunder on Sunday at 9:30am in Cambridge.

The Pirates bats were out in full force on Sunday for game one of a doubleheader versus the North Shore Giants. The Bucs offense jumped out to a 9-2 lead in support of starter Paul Aseltine. Rookie Kevin English lead the way going 3 for 3 with a walk, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base. Aseltine held his own until tiring in seventh, but Andy Burkett relieved him and shut the door with tying run on second base for a two out save.

The North Shore Giants won a pitchers duel on Friday night against the Cambridge Thunder 3-1 to pull to 5-5 on the season. Giants starter Jake Holloran went a solid 4.1 IP allowing only 1 unearned and striking out 4. Cambridge's starter Holloway took a no hitter into the 5th but the bid would be broken up by a single from Everett Strauss (1-1 , R, 2SB). Cambridge would threaten in the 5th but Left-hander reliever John Surette (2.2 IP, W, 0R, 1H, 4K) would come in w/ the bases loaded 1 out and get out of the jam. Surette would strike out the side in the 6th w the Giants plating an insurance run in the 6th off a Robert Kimber double to start the inning leading to a 3-1 Giant win

The North Shore Giants outlasted the East Boston Titans on Sunday 14-5 @ Palmer Cove -Salem. The Giants got up early on Matt Odonnell plating 5 in the 1st behind a 2RBI single from Bobby Celentanno (2-2, 2 Runs, 3RBI). Talal Saleh (W, 5IP, 4H, 3k, 4BB) would hold the Titans at bay for most of the day but allowed them to climb back to 6-4 in the 5th, however The Giants offense would score 8 runs in the bottom half of the 5th off 2 errors from the Titans defense and a 2 RBI single from Chris Smith. Giants will play the Thunder on Friday night to try and get back to the .500 mark for the first time this season.

The Newton Royals defeated the North Shore Giants on Friday night behind another strong pitching performance by Justin Chere. The Royals pounded out 10 hits and rallied back from a 4-1 deficit plating 5 runs in the bottom of the third and 3 more in the fourth. The Giants made it close getting 3 runs in the sixth but the Royals held on for win improving to 6-2.
