Savin Hill Hornets 5, South End Astros 4
Hornets and Astros finish off the 2012 with a pretty good ball game.
This one was the KC Murphy show. The Hornet all-star first baseman was 3 for 4 with all 5 RBI. The first two left the yard at Ronan in the 1st inning for his 2nd home run of the year. In the 6th Inning his single cut the score to 4-3. And, in the bottom of the 7th, with the bases loaded and 1 out, his blast into the left center gap sent everybody home. Lest you think he was all offense, Murph recorded 15 putouts at 1B tonight.
Astro starter, Joey Ortiz was easily the second star of the game. After giving up the 2-run HR to Murphy in the first, he no-hit the Hornets for the next 4 innings, including having not one ball hit out of the infield.
Hornet reliever Chad Conroy escaped a tough situation in the 5th and did not give up a hit in his 2.2 innings of work for the win. He also did not allow a ball out of the infield. |

East Boston Knights 8, South End Astros 0
The Knights and Astros faced off for the 2nd time this season with the Knights looking to even the score after losing their previous match-up earlier in the season. The Knights sent Justin Wojcik vs old friend Josh Valerio.
This game was a reunion of sorts for the Knights facing old teammates in Omar Ortiz, Steve Baldassari and Josh Valerio. Both pitchers dueled thru 4 innings but the Knights broke the ice and got to Valerio scoring 7 runs in the 5th. Once again the Knights bats get contagious and string together enough hits to break thru in the inning.
The real story in this game was Justin Wojcik. He was in command all night keeping Astro batters off balance and shaking their heads in frustration. Wojcik threw a complete game 3 hit shutout striking out 2 for his 1st win of the season since re-joining the Knights.
The Knights are now 19-6 and reduce their magic number for winning the division to 2.
