Tom Manning was the story in this one, allowing 2 hits over 7 innings while adding 3 hits on offense. Game delayed in 1st, when Bo Finnegan was HBP and had to be taken to get stiches, but returned before end of game. Every player in Storm lineup had a hit, Milo having a strong game with 2 hits(double, 2rbi, etc.). Jimmy Woloski continues to drive in runs whenever the oppty arises. Natick played solid in the field. |

Sun, 15 July, 10:00AM, at Medford - Playstead (Game 1 of DH)

Always a close game when these two teams meet up. The temperature was hot and the tempers were short. Storm jumped out to early lead w/3 in the top of 1st. Medford tied it up with 3 in the 5th. Manning went the distance for win # 6, toughing out 7 in this heat with some solid defesive plays behind him 3DPs). Mets mounted a rally in the bottom of 7th, with the tying run on 2nd, but ran into an out on the basepaths. Garafano crushed the ball all day. Breen on base 4 times in the leadoff spot, led of the top of 7th with a double and Rich Winant (2 hits) knocked him in for the go ahead run. |

Sun, 8 July, 11:00AM, at Waltham - Nipper
Malden Storm 5, Waltham Red Sox 2
Well played game. Dave Marsters was the story, striking out 9 and walking only 1 in pitching a complete game over a solid Waltham squad. Gary Vallerand put the Waltham team on his shoulders with 2 doubles and throwing out 3 guys from behind the dish, but it wasn't enough. Key play in the 8th by Marsters fielding an attempted sac bunt and getting the lead runner and the highlight was a catch in the 9th by Jerry Breen that can only be described as as good as Coco's best. The best I've ever seen in person. |
