A nail biter at Trum. A weary but tough Yankee line-up gave the Cubs all they could handle. Down 2 runs in the 7th inning, the Cubs turned a triple play to end the Yankee rally in the 7th. The play began with a 6-4-3 DP then Jeff Meyer threw from first base to third to notch the 3rd out of the play by nailing the Yankee runner truning the corner from third to home. In the bottom of the inning a gutsy play by Ish Laboy tied the game, as he scored on a close play at the plate after a pass ball. Then a Damon Smith single knocked in the winner for the Cubs. Carlos Quinones started for the Yanks and pitched 3 solid innings and added an rbi double to help his own cause.

Jimmy Pigott pitched a spectacular game. Greg Curtis made what amounts to the best catch of the year. If it was on ESPN, it would have been a web gem. Jonathon Bannish broke through with a hit, a run, a RBI, a steal of home and 7 assists. The Yankees played a great defensive game with some great at-bats. Mackellar pitched a complete game.
