The Astros came back from a 2-0 first inning deficit to defeat the Worcester Giants 3-2 in the season opener at Holmes Field in Worcester.
Ron Viola (2-for-4 at the plate) pitched one hit ball over 5.2 innings to earn his first win of the season. Viola relieved starter Tony Faber who had to leave the game with an elbow injury in the first. Mike Vernon saved the victory with a 1-2-3 seventh. For the G-men, Dan Shanahan pitched well over 5.1 innings, allowing no earned runs. Nate Green took the loss in relief.
Josh Vernon plated Kevin Gorman (2R) for the game winner with a two-out single to left in the seventh. "D-Lowe" also reached on an error that scored two runs to tie the game in the fifth. Steve Corda had both Giant hits.
