The Thunder jumped out to an 11-0 lead after 2 innings and held on through a shaky 6th inning to win 11-5. Dave Patnaude, recently returned from the injured list, pitched a strong 4 scoreless innings to start the game including a great pickoff to 1B Bill Smith in the first inning. The Thunder attack was led by Brian Chen and P Jon Story with 3 hits each (Story with 2 doubles knocking in runs 2 and 3 in the game), and Dave Brown and Gregg Bromley with 2 hits each. Mike Rose reached 3 times on a walk, hit batter and single. Todd Thompson turned in a tremendous play at third to take away an extra base hit on a line drive up and to his left. Jim Beers, catching in game 2, made a great play on a popup to kill a Newton rally in the 4th. Newton put together a good 4th inning rally on successive hits by Dan Phelan and Ed Scala. Phelan had 2 hits to lead Newton.
