The Astros (16-5) set a new franchise record for wins in a season last night with a 6-2 victory over the Royals.
With his parents in attendance, Eric Harvey pitched 5.1 innings, not allowing a hit until the sixth for his 9th win of the season. That is also a new season record for wins by an Astros pitcher. Harv struck out 12 including the side in order twice.
Ron Viola kick-started the offense with a 2-run bomb to left on a hanger from Royals starter Martin Minns. The 'stros got two more in the inning and two more in the next to make it 6-0.
Mike Power tripled to center in the sixth and later scored the Royals first run. Josh Vernon came on in the sixth and did not allow an earned run, pitching effectively through the final 1.2 innings. The game ended on...well, Tim Clark snagged a hot grounder down the line at third and falling backwards into foul territory, threw side-arm to first in the air for the out. Really quite filthy.
