In a matchup of the Mariners of yesteryear versus the latest installment, the new guard was able to go up early and hang on for a 3-1 victory. As has been the case for most of the season, pitching led the way. Ryan Dearborn, coming off a shutout victory over the White Sox, brought his A game once again in surrendering only one run (unearned) to the 'Canes. This victory was much more difficult, as the bases were loaded with Hurricanes with one out in the top of the seventh. Dearborn ended the threat by getting Kevin Ludwig to ground into a game-ending double play. Offensively, Jay LaPointe went 3-3, Matt Dumont went 2-3 with 1 RBI, and Steve Limoges knocked in a pair. For the Hurricanes, Nick Markos had 2 hits and Alan Donaruma pitched a solid game against his former teammates.
