The Mariners (2-5) shook off a four-game losing streak to surprise the Beantown Pub Cards (7-2) 3-2 at East Boston Stadium. All the scoring was done in the first three innings, and the Mariner pitching tandem of Corey Aldoupolis and Tom DeVeau held off the Cardinal attack the rest of the way. Aldoupolis (1-0), in his first appearance on the mound of 2003, pitched a strong 6-1/3, scattering 8 hits and allowing 2 runs while striking out 3 and walking 6.

In the top half of the seventh, Tom DeVeau entered with runners on 1st and 2nd to close the game out, which he did by punching out the final two Cardinal batters.

The Mariners picked up two runs in the first thanks to singles by Jeff Rausch, Alan Donaruma, and EJ Freni, and Freni knocked in Donaruma again in the 3rd.

For the Cards, Conrad Paquette and Brian McCarthy each reached base safely in each of their four plate appearances, and Steve McKenna added two hits.

Aldoupolis gets first win, and DeVeau gets second save of 2003.
