The Royals jumped out to an early 9-2 lead. The A's scored 5 in the 5th to make it close, but 2 runs in the top of the 6th sealed it for the Royals. In the 6th, Drew Kowalevicz was intentionally walked to load the bases and Tom Spoth made them pay by hitting a single to left that plated 2 insurance runs. Mike Baker for the A's went 1 for 2 with a bases clearing double in the 5th for a total of 4 RBI on the day.
