The MABL season kicked off in wild fashion today at Fallon Field as the Reds edged the Mets, 9-8. The Reds lost leads of 1-0 and 7-4, and the Mets blew leads of 3-1, 4-3 and 8-7. A four-run top of the 7th put the Mets up, 8-7, but the Reds rallied for two in the bottom of the frame for the win. Zack Wells drilled the game-tying double for the Reds in the 7th, and pinch-runner Rob Chase scored the game-winner on a two-out error. For the Reds, Matt Baier was 4-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs. Ryan Chase scattered 11 hits over 6 innings and got the no-decision. For the Mets, Dennis Wassung had 3 hits and 8 of the 9 starters had at least one base hit. Steve Roberts kept the Mets in the game by getting 5 outs in relief, 4 by strikeout, with the Reds looking to build on the 7-4 lead.
