The White Sox win thanks to a wacky play. In the top of the 3rd inning, Nate Pane walked to lead off. Al Wiesner was then HBP. After a wild pitch, runners advanced to 2nd and 3rd. Then the crazy happened. Ivan Clemente struck out, but the ball got away. Instead of throwing to first base to get Clemente, the Padres catcher threw to 3rd to try to pick off Pane. It almost worked, as Pane got into a rundown. But after a few back and forth throws, the ump called interference on the Padres shortstop who was obstructing the baseline and Nates effort back to 3rd. This allowed Pane to score and no outs to be recorded. Jason Hoye then followed with a 2-RBI single to make the score 3-0, the ultimate difference in the game.

In the Padres 6th inning 3-run comeback, Leigh Zancewicz hit a pinch hit homerun that would have cleared the Green Monster. After 5.2 innings, Nate Pane relieved Brian Houlding end the threat and later the game for the save.
