FOXBORO -- In a rematch of last years championship Chris Horne faced off against Justin Chere to open up the season. The Royals avoided major damage in the 3rd as an RBI single by Sam O'Brien, followed by a double by Horne had the Mariners with runners at 2nd and 3rd with nobody out. Chere escaped the jam allowing only the one run to score. Down 2-1 in the 6th in an eerily similar game to last years championship final, the Mariners benefited from some clutch hitting by Horne, James Kajano, & Joey Tornabene as well as some luck thanks to some sloppy play by the Royals infield that put the Mariners up 5-2. The Royals rallied in the top of the 7th starting the inning off with a double from 2015 MVP Mike Ahearn and a single by Derek Palatino. Still with no one out in the inning manager Connor Brown brought in 2015 Cy Young winner Alec Palioca to slam the door shut as the Mariners escaped with a 5-4 victory.
