The White Sox jumped out to a 4-0 lead when the first five Sox of the game reached, including consecutive triples by Jason Hoye (3 for 3) and Ivan Clemente (2 for 2). After consecutive outs, the final out of the 1st came when Clemente tried to steal home. The startled batter, Mike Lembo, threw his bat at the pitch to protect and was thrown out on the bunt for the third out. Clemente may otherwise have been safe.

A 5th inning triple by the Marlins Steve Mellor led to a 4-1 game. Mike Mori and Al Becker 6th inning singles made the score 4-2.

In the 6th inning, the Sox loaded the bases and Al Wiesner (4 for 4) slammed a 2-RBI double to add some insurance.

Brian Holding got the win for the Sox, tossing 5 innings. Nate Pane got his 2nd save with 2 innings. Kevin Brennan absorbed the Marlins loss.
