The Royals got a huge effort from Jason Kurtz (CG, 11H, 2ER, 3BB, 5K) as he went the distance to pick up his 3rd win of the season. Kurtz made the pitches when it counted as he got out of a bases loaded 1-out jam in the 2nd and then stranded two runners in scoring position in the 3rd. After the 4th inning, Kurtz settled down to allow only 1 Rockie hit through the final 3 frames.

The defense was the other story for both teams as the Royals made no errors on the day and turned 2 early double plays to keep the Rockies at bay. The Rockies defense accounted for 5 unearned runs off of tough luck loser Kyle Philson (4.1IP, 6R, 1ER, 1BB, 3K).

For the Royals' offense, Tom Spoth went 2 for 4 with a big 2RBI double in the 6th to break things open. Greg Kosc (2R) and Felix Villalobos (R) also chipped in 2 hits a piece from the top of the order. For the Rockies, Philson, Boutilier, Sylvester and Kennedy all had multi-hit games.
