The D-Backs Greg O’Keeffe and the Yanks Ken Kilduff battled it out in a pitching duel. Kilduff walked away with the victory striking out 11 in 6 innings to win his 4th game of the year. O’Keefe pitched well in the loss but was hurt by 5 errors. In his 1st appearance of the year, Bryan Gauvin struck out 2 in a perfect 7th to earn the save.
The D-Backs struck 1st blood in the 3rd when Christian Riesch scored on a fielders choice after leading off the inning with a single. After the Yanks scored a single run in the 5th to tie it, the D-Backs came right back to take a 2-1 lead on Chris Buckley’s fielder’s choice.
The Yanks had a few clutch hits and took advantage of some D-Backs miscues in the 6th to score 4 runs and take the lead for good. The inning was highlighted by AJ Bucciarelli and Todd Steffanides run scoring singles.
The D-Backs Leigh Zancewicz had two hits on the day.
