LAWRENCE -- Mt. Vernon Park hasn't been a welcome sight to the Mariners as they've lost every game they've ever played there. Sunday, the M's players arrived in Lawrence dressed in black to make a statement. They were attending the funeral for their past woes. "It's time we write a new script here! We gotta pull together & bury the past! My fiance is here for heaven's sake!" screamed spiritual leader Jesse Stanley. The speech clearly resonated with the M's as they scored 11 runs with help from some surprisingly bad defense by the Yanks. The offense was led by Stanley (2H,3RBI) & Chris Horne (2H,2R,2RBI). On paper, Horne accounted for 4 of the team's runs on offense, yet his shoddy defense at short led to 5 unearned for starter DJ Goldberg. That, combined with the fact he was gunned down twice at the plate left some on the team (who chose to be left off the record) wondering if the 2016 Cy Young winner should just stick to pitching.
