In a crisply played game in East Boston, All-Star Bill Beauchesne (4-0, 0.48) picked up the first shutout of his 4-year Boston MABL career. Beauchesne scattered 7 singles and walked 3 with 8 strikeouts. All-Star Kit Kadlec and Greg Cote combined to throw out Tyler Walsh at the plate on the game's final play to preserve the shutout.
The Mets jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st on an RBI double by Cote, who tied teammate (and All-Star) Dave McManus and Gary Moran of the Rockies for the league RBI lead with 9, and a sac fly by Kadlec. Kadlec also drove in the Mets' 3rd run in the 3rd. All-Star Jason Joyce keyed both Mets rallies, scoring twice and stealing 3 bases-- 1 each after 2 hits and a walk.
For the Astros, Josh Vernon pitched well in defeat, allowing just 4 hits and 2 walks over 5 innings. Vinay Chakravarthy tossed 2 hitless innings in relief. Dan Schumaker had 2 hits for the 'Stros. |
