On a picturesque Sunday in Charlestown, the surging Waltham Athletics took on the South Shore Giants in what was expected to be an excellent pitching duel with Brett O'Keefe facing off against Jared Walsh. The A's came into the game with a 6 game winning streak which they looked to extend, while the Giants sought to begin the second half of their season with a win against another team vying for a coveted first round playoff bye. The Giants took an early 2-0 lead in the first with RBI base hits from Zac Stiffler and Abel Faron. The offensive success would be short lived however, as O'Keefe was able to settle down and blank the Giants for the next four innings. Walsh provided another solid start for the Giants, pitching 4 scoreless innings before a combination of defensive miscues and timely hitting allowed the A's to take a 3-2 lead in the 5th.
