The White Sox put on an 18-hit display versus the Athletics in what began as a tight game. The A's took a quick 2-run lead in the first inning, but the White Sox quickly tied the score 2-2 in the bottom of the frame. After some slugging by both teams, the Sox only had a narrow 9-8 lead at the end of 4 innings. But then the onslaught began as the White Sox scored 13 runs in their final 2 innings.
