White Sox 8, Astros 5
The Sox bats, literally, came out of the fog late to outlast a tough Astros squad in extras.
The sons of Tyler Walsh got out to a 3-0 lead through five highlighted by a Walsh RBI single in the 3rd and a Vernon double, and Walsh sac fly. The Sox battled back to take a 4-3 lead in the top of the 6th with hits by Unger, Clemente, Lembo, and a big triple by Colin Levesque. Kosc (1-1 3BB's) was huge as well.
With two on and no out in the 6th Stone recorded the final 3 outs in the 6th in relief Minns - though the Stros were able to push a run across on a Byrne sac fly. After Stone and Astros starter Vernon exchanged zero's in the 7th the White Sox exploded for 4 runs in the 8th.
Vernon pitched well in a tough losing effort while Minns took the ND. Stone gets the win with 2 innings of hitless relief. Smith threw the final frame inducing a nifty 1-6-3 double play that may have cost Matt LoPresti his chance at kids. |
