The Sox battled through scorching heat to defeat the Cards. The Sox grabbed 2 runs in the first inning help of a Al Wiesner double, Ryan Gray double and Earl Murphy single. More runs could have scored, but the Cards tossed out Wiesner at the plate, and later Billy MacDougall hosed Gray at thirdbase.

After some back and forth battling and the score 4-2 in the 6th inning, the Cards loaded the bases but were stopped short when Joe Fitzgerald robbed a MacDougall line drive at first base. The Cards threatened again in the seventh with 2 more base runners, but Eamonn McDonough forced the last two outs of the game to pop out to Fitzgerald at first.

WP - Eamonn McDonough
LP - Jay Wisner

Both pitchers pitched well in complete game efforts. McDonough finished with 10 K's and 6 hits in 7 innings.
