The Royals used a four-run fifth inning to down the Mets. Drew Kovalwicz knocked in the first two Royals with a third-inning single, and then tripled to give the Royals a big lead in the fifth. But the Mets got to Royals reliever Andrew Marenghi for four in the sixth, highlighted by a Greg Cote single. Greg Kosc had 3 hits for the Royals and Jason Kurtz didn't allow an earned run in five solid innings. Dan Doherty threw two perfect innings in relief for the Mets. Kit Kadlec continued his torrid hitting with two hits for the Mets.
