Behind the reliable arm of Anthony Leonelli (CG, 3H, 4K), the Marlins defeated the White Sox at rocky, Ryan Field on Sunday. Mike Desanto jumpstarted the Fish offense in the 2nd inning with an RBI triple. Tim Sheflin plated Desanto with a two-out RBI single. The White Sox made it 2-1 on a Felix Villalobos sacrifice fly in the 3rd, but that is as close as they would get.

The Marlins played small ball to manufacture 3 more runs. In the 3rd, Gregg Howard stayed in a rundown long enough to allow Paul Bracco to score. In the 5th, Andy Katz advanced from 1st to 3rd on a Karl Cyr bunt, and then scored on a wild throw. Cyr and Katz teamed up again in the 7th inning to add an insurance run with a suicide squeeze.

Defensively, Tim Sheflin (2-3, RBI) made several key picks at first base.

By winning their 7th game in the last 9, The Marlins poked their fins above water for the first time in the 2006 season.
