Waltham Athletics 4, Middleboro Mocka Rays 3
In a game featuring great pitching and defensive performances by both squads, the Athletics pull out the 4-3 win to go up 2-1 in this semifinal series.
Dave Pirman would surrender 2 runs to the Rays potent offense in the first inning. The Athletics, however, scored 4 of their own in the second, capped by a 2 RBI blooper by Donaruma to put the Athletics up 4-2.
Pirman would then settle in until the bottom of the 7th. Letourneau led off the inning with a moonshot double, and would come in to score on a fielder's choice. Tyler Ferdinand laced a liner to left field, but Paul Mahoney was able to secure the final out and the win.
NExt game is Sunday afternoon in Middleboro. The Athletics look to exorcise their demons from last season, when they took a 2-1 semifinal series lead against the Mocka Rays, only to lose 2 in a row to the eventual champs. |

Waltham Athletics 5, Middleboro Mocka Rays 1
The Mocka Rays would strike first after Knell reached on an error and scored on an infield single by Chand. This was all Alec Christian would allow, however, as he threw a CG and surrendered only 3 hits, while striking out 5 Rays.
The Athletics would tally 2 runs on the 4th, with the deciding run driven in on a groundout by Bo McIntyre, and an insurance run on a 2 out single by Adam Chochrek. The A's would put 3 up in the 5th and never look back. In the 7th, the Rays put 2 on, but Barton was able to track down a no-fence bomb by Pizaro to put the game away.
The Athletics and Mocka Rays face off again in Game 3 of the 5 game set on Thursday night at Cleveland Circle. |
