WALK-OFF WIN FOR THE NATS! BRETT RUDY SCORES THE WINNING RUN ON JOHNNY MOY'S FIELDER'S CHOICE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE 7TH

Cambridge Cantabs 6, Watertown Nationals 3

 Summary | Box Score
Final 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E
Cambridge Cantabs 0 0 1 2 0 1 0 0 2 6 8 1
Watertown Nationals 0 0 0 0 3 0 0 0 0 3 5 3

In the first matchup between the Cantabs and Nationals on opening day, it was the ‘Tabs who walked away with a 4-0 victory. The second meeting between these teams was a doozy that saw Cambridge stake an early lead only to see it evaporate thanks in large part to back-to-back solo homeruns from the Nationals’ Ryan Bere and Jay Thomas. The Cantabs answered right back with a run in the following inning and added two more in the 9th on the way to a 6-3 win.

This was a great game at the ever-unpredictable Iacono Playground. The solo shots from one-time 18+ Orioles Bere and Thomas were certainly highlight reel worthy, as were the multi-hit games from the Cantabs’ Ackerson, Skypeck, and Mothander. A big tip of the cap, too, to Cambridge’s Peter Kaes, who went the distance for the Cantabs in earning his first victory of the season.

The Cantabs and Nationals complete their regular season series on Wednesday June

Another gutsy performance on the mound by Bobby Gibbons, who went 8.1 for the win. Art Gibson came in a 2-run game with 1 out and the bases loaded and earned the pressure-filled save.

Phil Martin paced the offense with a triple and an RBI

Another excellent outing for the entire team offensively, with Brett Rudy, Scott Brodsky, and Phil Martin all racking up 2 hits each.

Scott Isaacs hit a home run into the tree in dead center, but because he failed to acknowledge the tree during the ground rules, it ended up as a double. His bad.

Cambridge Cantabs 1 0 0 0 0 0 2 1 x 4 11 2

On Opening Day, and in the first ever meeting between the Cambridge Cantabs and Watertown Nationals, the Cantabs emerged with a 4-0 shutout victory behind a solid complete game effort from Joe Perna (1-0). The offense was buoyed by Elliot Shea, Chris Plant, and Nate Knowles, each of whom chipped in 2 hits.

The Nats' Jay Thomas (0-1) pitched effectively through the first 6 innings, limiting the Cantabs to only 1 run. But the Cantab offense roared to life in the 7th and 8th, adding some insurance runs to what was ultimately a 4-0 victory. Thomas, it should be noted, also contributed 2 hits in the loss.
