In a great pitchers' duel between Eric Walz and Paul Aseltine, which saw 2 of the 3 runs score on wild pitches/passed balls, the Boston Cubs held on to defeat the Pirates 2-1 at Twi Field in Danvers. The Cubs offense was sparked by Brian McCarthy who went 2-3 with a 2B, 3B, R, and RBI. Eric Walz got the CG victory striking out 8 and giving up only 3 hits while surrendering only 1 unearned run. Aseltine pitched extremely well through 5 and Andy Burkett came in to escape a basesloaded, no out jam in the 6th to keep the Pirates in the game right until the end. |

Though walking 5 batters Ramos held down the Pirates long enough for the Braves to score 6 and solidify their lead in the conference. Mark Maloney (1-3; 2RBI, 2B, 2R) lead the charge in the 2nd inning with a two-run double which have the Braves as much as they would need. Brandon Polignone 2-3; 2RBI) added some insurance in the 4th with a one-run single. |

After being held scoreless for nine straight innings, the Pirates bats came alive against the Yankees in Game Two. The Bucs erased a 7-2 deficit thanks to some timely hitting off a parade of Yankees pitchers. Jackson Schuyler led the way for the Pirates, going 2-3 with a double and 3 RBI. Nate Fishman worked six strong innings for his second win of the season. |

With two outs and no one on in the seventh, the Pirates put together a game winning rally on a hot Sunday in Pepperell. All Star shortstop Kevin English got it started with a single through the left side off Red Dogs starter Jeff Tully. He stole second, then came around to score on a Jory Curran infield single that would be the eventual game-winner. Andy Burkett turned in another complete-game effort on the hill, scattering five hits for the W. |

The Bucs offense continued their merciless onslaught of Giants pitching in the second game of Sunday's double header. Veteran Jory Curran lead the offense going 2 for 3 with a double. Rookie Nate Fishman got the start for the Pirates and was opposed by Brandon Dooley. Fishman shined, pitching a complete game two-hitter without letting a ball out of the infield until the 6th inning. He compiled a final line of 7 IP, 2 H, 1 R (0 ER), and 11Ks to secure the Pirates 7th win of the season. The Pirates next opponent will be the Thunder on Sunday at 9:30am in Cambridge. |

The Pirates bats were out in full force on Sunday for game one of a doubleheader versus the North Shore Giants. The Bucs offense jumped out to a 9-2 lead in support of starter Paul Aseltine. Rookie Kevin English lead the way going 3 for 3 with a walk, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base. Aseltine held his own until tiring in seventh, but Andy Burkett relieved him and shut the door with tying run on second base for a two out save. |

Looking to bounce back from a loss in Game 1 of the double header, the Royals wasted no time as they opened Game 2 with 5 straight hits. Gary Carmona, Scott Weber, and Bryan Weber each picked up RBIs as the Royals plated 5 runs in the first inning. Chris Johnson picked up his 3rd win of the season going 5 innings giving up 3 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits with 5 Ks. Scott Weber added some insurance in the top of the seventh when he launched a solo homerun over the left field fence. Matt Bui and Eddie Lockhart each pitched a scoreless inning of relief and the Royals went on to win 7-3. |
