Sun, 21 September, 10:00AM, at Natick - Natick HS/Mahan
Waltham Red Sox 9, Boston Bombers 5
After the lights in Chelsea go out in the 9th last Thursday, this game was continued at Natick high school on Sunday morning.
After some debate about who was hitting and when, East Boston gets 2 in the bottom of the 9th to tie it and the game would remain that way until the top of the 15th.
Waltham loads the bases with no outs and Mike Barthel would double to clear the bases and later score on an RBI ground out by Bill Gross.
Barthel and Spadafino had 3 hits each and Derek Luccini homered earlier in the game (Thursday at Chelsea)
Jay Wisner pitched 8.2 innings in relief with 12 K's and gets the win.
Hats off to East Boston for a good year. A great effort to tie the game in the 9th and take Waltham the distance. |

Waltham Red Sox 13, Boston Bombers 2
It was tight game thru 4 but the Waltham bats come around pounding out 12 hits and they put up 10 runs in the 5th inning taking the contest by a score of 13-2.
Mike "Big Game" Barthel kept the Bombers off balance. He did struggle with the tight strike zone and walked 6 but also recorded 6 strikeouts and did not allow an earned run while picking up the win.
Dana Levensaler was 2-2 in the 5th inning, 3-5 in the game. His second hit of the inning was a double to left where all 3 runners scored and put the game out of reach. Mike Barthel had 2 hits and was on base 4 times and Brian Spadafino added 2 hits of his own and scored 3 times. |

Scituate Tides 4, Boston Bombers 1
Hurricane "Jimmy" Hanna could not slow down this matchup between arguably the two "biggest" baseball teams in Eastern Massachusetts. The only other matchup that would have been more exciting would have been a flag football game between these monsters.
Rob Monti with a complete game gem. Tides offense was led by Tommy Keefe, 3 for 3, and Chris Igo, 2 RBI. Brian Simone and Mike Casey both had big RBI's for the Tides as well.
Strong outing for Bombers pitcher Dan Godfrey who went all 8 innings, with 8 K's. This was exactly what playoff baseball is all about.
Game 2 time, date and location to be determined.
