After being dominated in game 2 by Malden and Tom Manning, Waltham's offense and intensity showed up in the rubber match of a series between 2 good ball clubs. The Sox put up 11 runs on 15 hits with Mike Barthel leading the way going 3-5, while Brian Spadafino, Jon Churchill, Bill Gross and Dan Pill all had 2 hits each. Derek Luccini and Dan Pill had 3 RBI each while Spadafino and Dana Levensaler added 2 steals each. Storm came within 1 when they got 3 in the seventh. With the tying run on first, Mike Barthel dives to stab a liner up the first base line and tags the bag for the inning ending double play. The Sox then get 3 in the eighth to put it away. Pill settled in after a tough first inning for the win and Jay Wisner gets the save. Great defense up the middle for Waltham all series by Spads and Derek Luccini. Waltham advance to the semi-finals as they have done every year (4 in a row) since coming into the league.
