The Marlins edged the Cubs 5-3 in a tense battle between Atlantic division rivals on a sunny Sunday morning at Ryan. Through the top of the 5th the Marlins led 5-1 on the strength of Chris Ryan (3-3, 2R, BB, 2B) scoring on a Davin Wilfrid RBI double in the 1st, Tim Sheflin singling and scoring after a fielders choice and error in the 3rd, and 3 runs scoring on a fielders choice and two base error in the 5th. Kevin Brennan took over for Mark Daoust (W, 4.1 IP, 1R, 2K) in the bottom of the 5th and got out of a two on, one out jam in that inning. The Cubs scored twice in the sixth and had two runners on base with no outs before Brennan again wiggled off the hook to earn his second save. Mike Bristol took the loss for the Cubs.
