Harbor Point Dodgers 1, Cambridge Spinners 0
In the Dodgers' home opener at Ross Field, Brookline comes through with a hard fought win over Cambridge in a pitchers duel between Marty Whitmore and Randy Casey.
The only run scored was in the bottom of the 5th on an errant throw. Andy Zides led off with a double, Zvi Dubitzky bunted Zides to third, and Zides scored on a FC grounder to third base by Joe Patrolia. Both teams played well defensively. Zides made a web gem at 2B, snagging a line drive from Caceras. Key play in the 2nd when Cambridge's Perkins was thrown out at home on a great relay from RF Patrolia to 1B Dubitzky to catcher Bryan Duffy, who blocked the plate for the out, keeping the game scoreless. Rookie Dodger 3B Chris Campilio went 2 for 3.
Whitmore went 7 shutout innings with 8 K's, scattering 5 hits and only 1 walk for the win (1-0).
Casey went all 6 innings allowing 4 hits, 2 walks and 13 K's in the loss. 3B Jesse Leavitt had 3 hits. |
