Astros and Padres lock-up in extra innings tilt at the Circle. 'stros pull it out in 8. Sean Kennedy threw six strong and Eric Harvey got the win in relief pitching the last two. He slammed the door in the eighth with help from Rich Newman and Tony Ricupero. Newman threw a one hop strike to Ricupero to erase a potential lead-off double. Astros down 2-1 with 2 outs and 2 in scoring position in the 7th, Ricupero delivered a huge hit that vaulted the 'stros ahead by 1. Then the 'dres tied it in the bottom half on a single and SB by Leigh Zancewicz and a double by Charles Luoma. The 'stros loaded the bases in the 8th and Jaime Manciocchi scored after forcing an errant throw to third by the catcher. Manciocchi was the only Astro with 2 hits and played third base like a man possessed including diving down the baseline to tag out a runner headed for home. The heart-attack 'stros are now 5-3 while the Padres fell to 3-4.
