Eric Walz throws the first postseason no hitter in CABL's young history while going 3-4 with an RBI at the plate. Shaun McAuliffe also went 3-4 scoring 3 times while Billy McGee and Brian McCarthy both went 2-4 and Mike Carpentier chipped in with a 2 run double to snap the 1-1 tie in the fourth.
The Cubs take on the #6 seed Metro Gators Wed night at Twi Field in Danvers.

In an epic die-or-die game in which both starters went 9+ as the game went into extra innings, the Cubs bookmarked the game with four run 1st and 10th innings while the Yankees initially clawed back to tie the game at 5 in the 4th inning and were able to get 1 back in the 10th. But that was not enough to beat Billy McGee, who went 9.1 innings and giving up 3ERs while striking out 7. McGee gave way to Eric Walz who recorded the two out save in the 10th only seconds before the lights (on an automatic timer) turned off. The Cubs move on to face the Malden Braves on Sunday.

The Royals won their first playoff game since 2012 in a blowout over the Boston Cubs on Sunday. Scoring 16 runs on 18 hits, the Royals cruised to a first round victory. 8 of the 9 starters got at least 1 hit and a few players put up huge games including Mike Ahearn (4-5, 3R, RBI, 2SB), Ryan Ritell (2-4, 3R, 2B, 3RBI, BB, 2SB), Gary Carmona (4-5, 3R, 3RBI), and James O'Neil (3-4 2R, 2B, RBI, BB). Not to be overlooked, Justin Chere pitched another gem picking up the win going 6 innings giving up 1 run on 4 hits with no walks and 4 strikeouts. The Royals now face the Metro Gators on Thursday in Round 2.

In a great pitchers' duel between Eric Walz and Paul Aseltine, which saw 2 of the 3 runs score on wild pitches/passed balls, the Boston Cubs held on to defeat the Pirates 2-1 at Twi Field in Danvers. The Cubs offense was sparked by Brian McCarthy who went 2-3 with a 2B, 3B, R, and RBI. Eric Walz got the CG victory striking out 8 and giving up only 3 hits while surrendering only 1 unearned run. Aseltine pitched extremely well through 5 and Andy Burkett came in to escape a basesloaded, no out jam in the 6th to keep the Pirates in the game right until the end.

Needing one win on the day to secure a playoff birth, the Cubs sent Billy McGee to the hill against Chris Johnson. McGee scattered 9 hits over a complete game victory while giving up 2 runs (1 earned) and walking none. McGee was backed by a resurgent Cubs offense led by Brian McCarthy. A big, 4 run 3rd broke the game open as Carpentier and McCarthy singled, Walz chipped in with an RBI ground out, and, following a walk to Daughtrey, Mike Ray hit a 2-run triple to deep right center and came in to score on a throwing error at 3rd. The Royals head into the postseason as the #2 seed while the Cubs will host the Quincy Pirates on Friday, 8/21 as the #8 seed.

The Royals took on the Cubs on Sunday needing one win to secure the #2 Seed for the upcoming playoffs. And in Game 1 they did just that. After the Royals jumped to an early 4-0 lead, the Cubs chipped away and after a few innings of back and forth scoring for both sides, the Royals entered the bottom of the sixth inning with the score 6-5. It was then that the Royals bats exploded for 6 runs on 6 hits making it 12-5. It was the most hits and runs that the Royals offense had in a single game this season and was lead by Ryan Ritell's monster day at the plate (3-3, R, 2B, 5RBI, SAC Fly). Ryan Bowen picked up his 3rd win of the season pitching 6 innings while Kevin Ceurvels closed the door with a scoreless 7th. The win officially secured the 2 seed for the Royals.

The Braves hosted the Cubs in Charlestown where Austin Teal (CGSO; 3H, 7K) shut them down on a 3-hit performance. He as also the biggest contributor at the plate with 3 hits and a walk on the day.

PLAINVILLE -- In the second game of the Sunday afternoon doubleheader between the Cubs & the Mariners, Alec Palioca went the distance for his 7th victory of the season. After four straight 15 strikeout performances the home crowd was slightly disappointed as Palioca only struck out 12 Cubs. Meanwhile, the Mariners offense exploded for 14 hits and 8 runs led by Jesse Stanley's 3-4 2RBI performance against his former manager & team.

PLAINVILLE -- Rookie Jared Clement took the hill for his first start of the season & turned in a fine performance going 6 2/3rds striking out 9 allowing only 2 earned on the afternoon. He also helped himself out with a clutch two out, two run single in the 5th to put the Mariners ahead. Clement ran into trouble in the 7th as he began to tire allowing the Cubs to tie the score at 4. In the bottom of the 7th, Mike Szymanski walked and Billy Hunt singled putting the winning run at 3rd with no outs. Chris Horne came to the plate next, & won the game with a walk-off single as he finished the game going 3-3 with two runs scored, one walk, and one BIG RBI.

The Boston Cubs bounced back from a tough 1-0 loss in game 1 with a 2-1 victory in the night cap of a hot and humid doubleheader with the E. Boston Titans. The Cubs mustered only two hits off Mark Blake, but both came home to score to give the Cubs all the offense they needed. The Titans made things interesting in the 7th when Brian Maynard, after a lead-off double, scored on a sac fly. Billy McGee finished off the complete game victory without further trouble.

Shaun McAuliffe earned the victory for the Cubs on the mound while adding a 3-run home run as the Cubs swept the doubleheader from the Nationals. The Cubbies jumped out to a big 7 run lead in the 4th, but the Nats scored 3 in the 4th and 4 more in the 6th to tie things up. The Cubs responded with 5 runs in the 7th to secure the victory.

The Boston Cubs took game 1 of the DH with the Nationals on the arm and bat of Eric Walz who struck out 9 of the first 10 batters he faced and went 3-4 with an RBI, run, and SB. After the Nationals came back to take a 2-1 lead in the 4th, the Cubs tied it up in the bottom of the 4th and exploded for 6 runs in the 5th to put the game out of reach. Eric Brooks was 2-3 with a run and an RBI for the Nats.

The Boston Cubs defeated the Quincy Pirates 6-4 in Cambridge today. The Cubs plated 5 runs in the first, but the Pirates battled back to make it a one run game at 5-4 in the 6th. Cubs starter Eric Walz escaped a basesloaded, full count jam with a strike out to end the threat in the 6th, and the Cubs added an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th before turning the ball over to closer Billy McGee for a 1-2-3 save. The Cubs improve to 3-1 on the season, while the Pirates fell to 2-2.

Alex Teal got his first start of the season striking out 4 and only allowing 3 hits across 6 innings. The Braves scored three runs in the first inning before the Cubs even saw an at-bat. After consecutive walks to start the game, Nick Powers laced a single to right field to score two runs. He subsequently was thrown out at second trying to stretch it into a double but the damage was already done. The Braves improved to 3-2 on the year and face the Yankees at World Series Park in Saugus next Sunday.

After falling behind 2-0, the Cubs were able to scratch out runs to tie to score after a triple by Brian McCarthy as followed by a single by Matt Butcher, an RBI single from Angel Rivera, and an RBI single by Gill Menjivar. Back to back singles in the 8th from Ryan O'Neil and Chris Tully gave the Red Dogs the lead, but the Cubs plated 2 on a long walk off single by Eric Walz over the head of the centerfielder to complete the two game sweep in the bottom of the 8th.

In game one of a doubleheader, the Cubs broke out early- scoring 4 runs in the first two at bats. The Red Dogs came back and plated 3 in the 3rd on a bases-loaded double. The Cubs added an insurance run in the 4th, which was all ace Eric Walz would need to earn the victory in his season debut. Mike Ray earned his first save of the season.
