Norfolk County Mariners 2, Metro Gators 1
In a game that is already viewed as a CABL Instant Classic, the Mariners sent ace Alec Palioca to the hill opposed by the Gator's Greg Doucette. Tensions were high early as Gator's star Chris Dowd had a disagreement with umpire Bob Roberts who promptly ejected him in the 1st inning. When Palioca struck out Efrain Vega for the final out in the 5th, the M's began to walk off the field but were called back after failing to throw to 1st on the swinging strike in the dirt. The mental error was costly as Doucette hit an RBI single on the very next pitch. Entering the bottom half of the 7th, down 1-0, & still getting no-hit by Doucette, Norfolk rallied with three hits loading the bases with no outs. Palioca followed with an RBI groundout, but Doucette worked out of the jam, sending the game to extra frames. In the bottom of the 8th the M's got a clutch two out walk-off single by James Kajano to earn their 6th victory of the season. |
