Spinners 5, Tigers 4

 Summary | Box Score
Final 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 R H E
Spinners 0 2 0 0 0 3 0 5 7 3
Tigers 3 0 0 0 0 1 0 4 4 3

Game 2 in Cambridge started off shaky for the Spinners. Taking an early lead, the Tigers scored 3 unearned runs in the 1st. Fighting back, Cambridge was able to cut the lead to 1 on a M.Tufo single and J.Tufo FC.

The game would stay quiet as Blomerth and Wlodarczyk were both pitching well. But in the 6th M.Navarro led the Spinners rally with a lead off single. After a Knell walk and D.Caceres sac bunt, Big Mahk Killoren would tie the game up. M.Tufo would put the Spinners ahead by 1 with an RBI single to LF. Pettit would keep the rally going, giving Cambridge their eventual winning run, roping a double to LF.

Tigers kept crawling back though. In the bottom half they would reach on throwing error and end Blomerth's (0 ER 5 In) night. They would later score that run, but that's all Mattina would allow. In the 7th behind great fielding Mattina picked up the save with a 1,2,3 7th.

Spinners await their Rd. 2 opponent tonight.

Final 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 R H E

Tigers 0 2 0 0 0 0 0 2 4 1

Spinners come from behind in the 7th for what seems like the 100th time this season and pick up the win over a tough Tigers team. Both teams had great pitching throughout the game. Vernon cruised through 6 innings, striking out 12 and giving up no runs. Blomerth would give up 2R in the 2nd, walking 1 and giving up hits to both Stevens and West(2RBI) but would settle down after.

Top 7 the Caceras bros would both reach base bringing up Big Mark Killeron(3RBI, 2H, 1HR). Down in the count big Mark connects with a fastball driving it to the right center gap for an inside-the-park HR putting the Spinners ahead 3-2. That would be all the Spinners 1st rd draft pick, Mattina(5 wins, 0 loss, 4 saves), would need to shut the door and pick up his 4th save of the season. Blomerth improves to 5-3.

The Tigers clinched the 3 seed in the Bay State Division in a tight 2-0 battle between conference foes. Starters Mike Gentile and Vinny Cimmino locked into an early pitchers duel and pitched well throughout. In the 4th, the Tigers were able to get to Gentile scoring the only runs of the game on singles from Allain, Stevens (2-3, R), Field and Klimm. The Brewers threaten in the bottom half, but a sensational catch and resulting double play by Klimm in right ended any potential rally. Pitching was the story for the rest of the game as both starters went the distance. Cimmino (CG SHO) picked up his 5th win of the year, scattering 3 strikeouts, 2 walks, and only 4 hits. Gentile pitched well for the Brewers striking out 6 and only walking 2.

The Tigers wrap up the regular season Wednesday nite in Chelsea against the Spinners, while the Brewers play the Padres next week.
