The Marlins proved once again that pitching and defense wins games in the postseason as they avenged a regular season loss against Braves ace Chris O'Sullivan, winning the Atlantic conference Wild Card game 8-1 at Billings Field.

Neil Doherty twirled a masterpiece, picking up the first postseason win in Marlins history by virtue of a complete game, 3 hit performance. He once again epitomized control pitching by allowing only 2 walks, while striking out 2.

The Marlins broke a scoreless tie with 7 runs in the 3rd, highlighted by a perfect hit and run single by Chris Ryan, in addition to RBI singles by Paul Bracco and Matt King and a bases loaded walk to Andy Katz. Davin Wilfrid later added a rocket triple to the left center gap in the 6th.

Adam Etherington was lights out at short, handling 10 chances cleanly, and Tim Sheflin robbed Chad Pires of extra bases, hauling in a long drive up the slope in left in the 4th.
