Waltham Red Sox 7, Braintree Rockies 3

 Summary | Box Score
Final 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E
Braintree Rockies 1 0 0 2 0 0 0 0 0 3 9 2
Waltham Red Sox 0 0 6 0 0 0 1 0 x 7 12 3

Waltham wins behind good pitching performance from Dan Pill and GREAT defensive play from the infield. The sox turned 4 double plays and with every one of them, Braintree would strand men in scoring postion.

Rockies got 1 in top of first but the Sox put 6 runs on the board in the bottom of the 3rd, when Dan Pill helped his own cause and Derrick Luccini each had big hits with doubles. It used to be the killer B's for the Astros but L's were wild for Waltham as Lubrun, Leet, Levensaler and Luccini all had 2 hits each.

Pill pitched 8 innings before giving way after walking the leadoff batter in the ninth and falling behind 2-0 in the count. Levensaler comes in for the save and Waltham will face off with Natick.

Marc Nickerson throws a complete game for Braintree striking out 8. Rockies have a great first season with second best overall record and several league leaders statistically.

A good battle between 2 good clubs. Rockies try to jump out early in the first, but Dana Levensaler throws out Rob Linn at the plate on a single by Stephenson. Game scoreless until Braintree gets 1 in the fourth on a Nickerson line drive that Levensaler looses in lights. Waltham puts up 5 runs in the sixth. Derrick Luccini and Gary Vallerand each had doubles that led to runs. Rockies pull within a run as they plate 3 in the 7th but help Waltham by getting in a run down for an out.
Bottom of 8th, Gauvin walks bases loaded and would be relieved by Levensaler with 2 outs who K's Cassidy to end the inning and Braintree would go down in order in the ninth.
Andolina gets the win, Levensaler the save and Tenney pitched well going the distance for Braintree with 9 K's.

Waltham Red Sox 4, Lexington Astros 2

 Summary | Box Score
Final 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E
Waltham Red Sox 0 1 0 3 0 0 0 0 0 4 9 4
Lexington Astros 0 0 1 1 0 0 0 0 0 2 10 3

Sox put 3 across the plate in the top of the fourth and neither team would score from there on out. Sox take it 4-2, Gary Vallerand with the win, Dana Levensaler gets the save.

Offensively, Derrick Gauvin had a 2 run double that proved to be the difference with Beetle Lebrun and Dana Levensaler each having 2 hits.

Astros best chance was in the bottom of 7th, 2 on with no outs. A bunt attempt would lead to a pop-out and a nifty 6-4-3 double play would get the sox out of the threat.

Game also contained a little "hidden ball trick" controversy. These 2 teams face off again very soon in Waltham.

 Summary | Box Score

Braintree Rockies x x x x x x x x x 10 13 0
Waltham Red Sox 3 1 0 0 0 2 3 1 1 11 17 2

Waltham keeps coming back and pulls off the win in extra innings and it seemed there must have been a full moon or something.
Rockies get out to a big lead early from the combination of their good hitting and Waltham's defense apparently left their gloves at home. Top of the first, Rob Stephenson hit's a 2 run homer to get out early.
Waltham would eventually compile 17 hits with Chris Deane topping it off having a 4-6 performance with 2 runs and 4 RBI. Gary Vallerand, Dan Pill and Dana Levensaler all added 3 hits each.
Some things out of the bizar category:
The sox were down 3 runs in the bottom of the seventh, with 2 outs and no runners on base. The sox led off the bottom of the 8th and 9th innings with strikeouts that would reach base and both would eventually score. There was a perfect bunt by Mark Fitzpatrick with 2 strikes.

In an early Sunday morning game where both teams seemed a little flat, Joe Cincotta certainly was not. After getting some innings out of the bullpen this season, Joe got his first start, even though nobody was expecting it. Slated to start at shorstop until a last minute decision because of some discomfort to one of Waltham's pitchers, he would throw a complete game, allow only 2 unearned runs on 4 hits, issuing just one free pass to go along with his 13 stikeouts.

Bob Lebrun was the only red sock with 2 hits and Chris "the marine" Deane added 2 RBI.

Well played game. Dave Marsters was the story, striking out 9 and walking only 1 in pitching a complete game over a solid Waltham squad. Gary Vallerand put the Waltham team on his shoulders with 2 doubles and throwing out 3 guys from behind the dish, but it wasn't enough. Key play in the 8th by Marsters fielding an attempted sac bunt and getting the lead runner and the highlight was a catch in the 9th by Jerry Breen that can only be described as as good as Coco's best. The best I've ever seen in person.

Waltahm gets their second win within the last 15 hours with 10 players. As Bobby Lebrun would say, "we're still loose from last night". Mark Fitzpatrick gets the win , Dan Pill the save for Waltham.

Wayland put up 2 runs in each of the 6th and 7th, to make it a 1 run game as they started getting to Fitzpatrick. Waltham added an insurance run in the top of 9 and Pill closed the door.

A very undermaned Waltham team actual put together their best overall game of the season. Somerville commits no errors on defense.

Tom Dowey gets the win and Mark Andolina great in relief. Dan Pill and Bill Gross each 2-3 but Gary Vallerand stole the show in a rare non-pitching appearance. 2-2 with an ASB (almost stolen base). He had a key 2 out RBI single and 2 web gems from the second baseman. An over the shoulder catch on a shallow pop up to right field, and an up the middle, back handed, tag the bag , throw to first, double play.

The story of 2 seperate games. Teams combine for 22 runs, 27 hits and an ugly 9 errors.

Mets jump out to an early 6-2 lead off Dana Levensaler with a handful or seeing-eye singles and tough at-bats and Waltham makes a number of physical and mental mistakes and can't seem to do anything right or get a break.

Mark Andolina great in relief for Waltham and they eventually tie it at 6 in the 5th inning. In the 6th, Waltham's luck would change with a handful of their own Texas Leaguers and some Medford miscues as an amazing 9 hitters in a row would score to seal the game.

With the key addition of baseball shaped on-deck circles, (provided by Gary Vallerand) and several new player additions, Waltham jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first and never looked back.
