Sat, 30 June, 7:00PM, at Waltham - Nipper
Waltham Red Sox 4, Somerville Senators 1
A very undermaned Waltham team actual put together their best overall game of the season. Somerville commits no errors on defense.
Tom Dowey gets the win and Mark Andolina great in relief. Dan Pill and Bill Gross each 2-3 but Gary Vallerand stole the show in a rare non-pitching appearance. 2-2 with an ASB (almost stolen base). He had a key 2 out RBI single and 2 web gems from the second baseman. An over the shoulder catch on a shallow pop up to right field, and an up the middle, back handed, tag the bag , throw to first, double play. |

Not much offense in this one due to strong pitching performances by Steed(9 K's) & Kroger(4 balls to outfield) held both teams in check over 9 innings. Somerville played the better defense. |

Scituate Tides 6, Somerville Senators 2
Opening day at Scituate High School meant yet another celebrity filled pregame festivity. This year Tides PR department was able to nail down Ron Jeremy to throw out the first pitch, and Quiet Riot to sing the National Anthem. Once the fireworks smoke cleared the field, the game was just as exciting, with Rob Monti (12 Ks, 2 R) and Sneed for the Sens(10 Ks O R) dueling it out. The Tides finally broke through when Sneed came out in the eighth, pushing six across with two outs). Stoney got it all started plating the first run, with Miggy clearing the bases with a bomb double to left center and the hit parade continuing with Iggy, Keefa, Case all singling with runners on. Big Larry got the win with three clean and strong innings in relief. Highlight of the game was Officer Casey getting snipered by one of his SWAT team brotheren while trying to score from first on a single in the gap. Great game for Iandoli (3 H)and Rousseau (2 H). |
