Final 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 R H E
Astros 0 1 0 0 0 1 2 4 7 4
Tigers 1 2 0 2 0 0 x 5 5 2

Tigers win the Bay State title and advance to the Franchise's first MABL Championship thanks to the veteran pitching of Houlding and the patient and skilled hitting of the Offense.

JP scored the first run as he walked, stole second, and scored on a Morgan single to center. The Astros scored 1 in the 2nd on a Dowling 3B and 'Cupe 1B, but the Tigers answered on a Silk 1B, and 3 BB. The Tigers scored 2 more in the 4th that would prove to be necessary insurance as 'Speedy' Dan Field (lookin' good dimer!) celebrated the New Year with a lead off 2B followed by a couple of errors and RBI ground outs.

Houlding limited the 'Stros to 4 hits, but the Astros would battle back in the 6th and 7th as Byrne homered to left, Walsh scored on a Vernon 3B then scored on a groundout. However Wlodarczyk was able to close the door on a comeback with a 1-out save to secure the Divison Title. Congrats to Tyler and the Stros on a great series and season

Tigers 0 5 0 0 0 1 0 6 6 0
Astros 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 2

Tigers take Game 2 as Wlodarczyk and Copson combine to 1-hit the Astros. The Tigers capitalized in the 2nd on some rare wildness from Harvey (4 BB in the inning) and a couple of clutch hits from Sway and Pane. Gib had the GWRBI on a BB scoring Morgan who had singled to get things started.

The Astros meanwhile were unable to get a man past 2nd as RW dominated through 6 with 3 1-2-3 innings and striking out the side in the 5th.

Scotty Stevens knocked Harvey from the game in the 6th with a 4,000 ft. HR to right that may still be going as it was hit so far it got stuck in a passing 747. The Tigers also played error-free ball with some very nice plays and look to close out the series in Game 3.

Tigers 9, Astros 2

 Summary | Box Score
Final 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 R H E
Astros 1 0 1 0 0 0 0 2 3 5
Tigers 3 1 0 1 0 4 x 9 8 4

Tigers take Game 1 on an awesome pitching performance from Chad Griffiths, as he was thrust into action at the last minute yet allowed just 3 hits over 6 innings, throwing only 65 pitches for the win.

The Astros got on the board first as Clarahan led off with a double and scored on a deep fly ball by Ballas that was chased down by Feliciano. Ricupero scored on a couple of errors in the 3rd, but that would be it for the Astros as CG and Copson combined to shut 'em down the rest of the way.

Meanwhile the Tigers O stayed hot as they scored 3 in the first on 2 BB and 2 H, including a 2B by Morgan (2-3, 3RBI). They scored twice more before tacking 4 on the board in the 6th on 4H and a BB, including a Murphy shot to CF that fell but was called a catch, confusing everyone, then Morgan roped one to RF that turned into a marathon - "Do you want to score?" "Not really..."

That would be all for the scoring and the game.

Astros 5, Indians 3

 Summary | Box Score
Final 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 R H E
Astros 0 0 0 1 2 0 2 5 8 3
Indians 0 2 1 0 0 0 0 3 6 2

Eric Harvey came back on 2 days rest and got stronger as the game went on. His performance was overshadowed by the Astros bats who dug out of an early 3-0 hole and rallied to win it 5-3, handing Daryl Pina (also 2-days rest) his only loss of the season.
Indians lead with 2 in the 2nd (Jason Deveau BB, Jeff James oppo double), and 1 more in the 3rd on singles by Josh Hale and Dan Byrne.
Tony Ricupero started the stros scoring knocking in Jon Mayes (single) with a double. Shu Sasaki hit a solo bomb in the 4th to make it 3-2 and Steve Ballas tied it by singling, stealing, moving to 3rd on a ground out and scoring on an error. Then in the 7th (extra innings looming) with 2 outs and a man on, Donny Vachon lined a shot over the fence in right.
Stu Wallace started for the Tribe and worked out of jams through 3 scoreless innings before giving way to DP.
Congrats to Chief Bondo and this classy Tribe on a great season.

Indians 2 0 0 1 0 1 2 6 0 0
Astros 0 0 2 0 1 5 x 8 0 0

This one was back and forth all the way, but it all came down to the fact that Scott MacKenzie pitched brilliantly and the 'stros bats responded.
The Indians took a 2-0 lead in the 1st, but in the 3rd Shu Sasaki (5 RBI) drove in 2 with a long drive to right center. Tied at 3 and headed to the 6th, the Indians got one in the top half and then the stros exploded. Byrne doubled, Vachon lined a missile that Bowles stole for the first out, and Dowling ripped a single up the gut. Then with two on, Tyler Walsh hit a pinch hit double to the 'warning track' in left center, scoring two, giving the stros the lead and knocking Jeff James out of the game. Hits by Viola, Mayes (RBI), and Sasaki gave the stros a 5-run inning. The Tribe rallied in the 7th, but Vachon came on for the save. With two outs, Bondola grounded to short, but reached on a bad throw which Viola saved with a diving pick and recovered in time to throw Bowles out at home.

Final 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 R H E
Astros x 3 x 1 x x x 4 0 0
Indians x 4 x 1 x x x 5 0 0

This one was as exciting as advertised as the Indians held on to defeat the Astros, 5-4. Knotted at 4-4 after the Astros tied the game in the top of the 4th, Josh Hale led off for the Indians with a triple to the gap in left center. After a Mark Bowles line drive to 3rd almost turned into a double play, Greg Bennett rifled a fly ball to center to get Hale home and give the Tribe the lead for good.

Pina and Harvey both struggled at times, but shut down the opposite side for much of the game. The Stros plated 3 on a bases loaded, 2-out double by their leadoff hitter (sorry guys, no book right now). The Tribe responded with bloops, bunts and bleeders in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. At least three Astros had multiple hits in the game, but Pina set down 9 of the last 10 to seal the W.

Orioles 0 0 4 0 1 4 1 10 13 1
Astros 0 3 1 0 3 0 0 7 6 2

O's close out the regular season with their 7th win in the past 8 games, a solid team effort.

Bryan Healey pitched a CG for the Orioles; he struggled a bit early with his control but pitched his best baseball in the clutch. He worked out of a bases-loaded, nobody-out jam in the 4th without allowing a run. Later, during the 6th and 7th innings, he recorded 4 critical K's to keep the Astros at bay.

Healey was supported by a balanced Oriole attack that countered every time the Astros had a big inning. With the Orioles trailing 3-0 in the 3rd with the bases loaded, Chris Buckley hit a bases-clearing triple to tie the game. Then in the 6th, trailing by a score of 7-5, Jordan Krall hit a 2-run HR to tie the game. Later that inning, Andy Murachver broke the game open with a 2-RBI double, staking the O's to a lead that would not be relinquished. Tim Fish cemented that lead with an RBI double in the 7th to provide some insurance.

Murray with the GWRBI.
Krall and Buckley pace the Oriole attack.

Tigers win another Baystate contest behind some timely hitting and some superb defense. Houlding was able to bounce back from his first loss of the season to get the win, going 5 before giving way to Copson to finish the game.

The Tigers got things going early as Sway turned a leadoff walk into a triple, and Murphy was able to knock in the first run on a bases-loaded groundout to third. Morgan followed with a sac fly on an 0-2 knuckler from Byrne for the game-winning run and RBI.

Though it turned out to not be needed, the Tigers exploded in the 3rd for 7 more on 5 hits and a couple free bases. Murphy and Silk finished the night with 2 hits each, while JWest walked twice and Dumas "stroked it right" for his first hit of the season.

The game was highlighted by 3 DP's and a couple other clutch defensive stops. Byrne did his best on the mound for the 'Stros while Sheerin and Vachon added 2 hits from the 9-hole.

The Tigers Woo-Town contingent put on a show at Tivnan as CG pitched a gem, carrying a no-hitter into the 6th before giving up an inf. single, putting the only damper on an otherwise spectacular game for the Tigers.

3 batters in, the Tigers scored the winning run on a Sway BB, WP, Pane moved him to 3rd, then JP knocked him in with a deep fly to left-center. The Tigers added 2 more in the 1st thanks to a bout of wildness (5 straight BBs), and 7 more in the 3rd on 6 hits and a HBP. Silky had a smooth game in front of his HS girls cheering section, while just about everyone else had a hit or reached base during the game.

CG was the story of the night though, as the one real challenge came in the 4th thanks to 3 BBs, but he was able to bail himself out with a couple of key Ks. In the 7th Riordan did his thing, putting the 1st two on, but cleaned up nicely with back to back K's before JWest said "nah, I'm good" to finish things off.

Led by Mike Vernon's breakout 4-6 in the two games, the stros kept hitting in game 2 of the double header and winning pitcher Scott MacKenzie took care of the rest (with a little help from James Clarahan). Plating four in the first, the stros would never relinquish the lead, but it got close midway through when MacKenzie made his only true mistake of the day and surrendered a bomb to left that will forever be known as the "not a home run". Clarahan (in right field no less) noticed that the runner had missed second base and the appeal was upheld. Ricupero gets the put out 1-4 on the appeal, but you can't fault us for putting it in the book as 9 unassisted. The sweep brings the stros to 9-6 and continues an unfortunate (recordwise) season for the Grays.

Game one of this afternoon double dip belonged to the stros from the beginning when Mike Vernon walked in the leadoff spot and scored on James Clarahan's monster triple. Sasaki followed with a lined single to score Vernon. In the second Sasaki added a bases clearing double that screamed over the center fielders head.
Eric Harvey fired six innings of one-run ball for the victory. Sean Kennedy cleaned up in the seventh. Ramos, who had dueled Harvey in the last meeting between these teams (a 3-2 stros win in the 10th) took the loss for the Grays.

It was another narrow escape for the Astros that earned them the victory today over the Reds at Ryan. Ahead 4-1, the Reds opened the bottom of the seventh with two triples and a single to draw within one. An errant pick off moved the tying run to second and then a deep fly to center freed him to tag and take third. With the infield drawn in and the runner off on contact a ground ball to second erased the tying run at home.

Astros 1 0 4 2 0 0 0 7 9 1

It was a recipe for disaster. 10am start. In Acton. A lineup card of only 9 players, 5 minutes before the first pitch. 8 game winner Bryan Healey on the hill for the opposition. All bad news. The good news, in two words and 67 inches, Eric Harvey. Napoleanic autocrat that he is, Harvey allowed his teammates a paltry 6 putouts in the field. His selfish behavior, striking out 15 (including 8 in a row to open the game), was thuggery that could be appreciated only by a person of demeanor most uncouth (e.g. an A-Rod apologist). As someone who had to endure that display, I will only say further that he gave up 3 hits and no walks in 7 shutout innings, and went 0-4 at the plate.
As for the offense, rookie Donny Vachon had a breakout day with 3H, two 2B, 2R, and 3RBI. Mike Byrne launched twin lumberjackian doubles that plated two more, and Shu Sasaki also had a multi-hit game as he and Mayes added an RBI each.

Brian Houlding (5K, 3H, 0ER) notched his second opening day victory for the Boston Tigers by a score of 5-1. The Tigers jumped out to an early lead in the 2nd versus the Astros' rookie pitcher, Daniel Sesko. Stevens (1-3) led off the inning with a single and advanced to 2nd on a pass ball. Consecutive hits by Silky (2-3, 1R) and Field (1-3, 2R) brought in Stevens for the 1st run. Due to a couple of fielding miscues, the Tigers put 3 more on the board and didn't look back from there. With the bases loaded and no outs in the 5th, the Astros had a chance to do some damage but were only held to 1 run on a sweet unassisted DP turned by Pollard, the Tiger's second DP of the game. Great game by the Astros, enjoy the bachelor party! See you at the Ho-Win in August!

Mariners starter Jarlin Gomez pitched well at times but walked eight and took the loss.
Leo pitched well through the first four, but the decision and win went to rookie Scott MacKenzie. He threw a ten pitch fifth with some help from his catcher Shu Sasaki, who gunned down Jeff Rausch (3H,RBI,R) trying to steal 2nd.
Sasaki had tied the game in the 4th with an RBI single that scored Rich Newman. The stros took the lead in the fifth and set the table for one of the great MABL saves of all time. Josh Vernon got an out in the sixth, but an error on a double play ball and a walk loaded the bases with one out. Then closer Mike Vernon came in and struck out two players on six pitches total and then the side in the seventh.

Vernon K's five in one and two thirds for the save.
