Medford third baseman Ryan Maguire homered leading off the bottom of the sixth, snapping a 2-2 tie and lifting the Americans to a 3-2 win over the Lexington Blue Sox at Playstead Park.

Orazio Azzarello started on the mound for the Americans and pitched five stellar innings of four hit ball, yielding two sixth inning runs, striking out three and walking no one.

Nolan Boike earned the win in relief striking out the last four batters he faced.

Rob Oteri pitched the first three innings for the Blue Sox giving up just one run on three hits. Chris Bodnar worked the final three allowing two runs on three hits including the Maguire homer.

Bill Smeglin and Maguire each had two hits and an RBI for the winners. Johnny Welch and Steve Napier, whose fourth inning single drove in the first Medford run, also had a hit.

Andy Sweeney had two Blue Sox hits, Tim Bryant and Ryan Duff had one. Jake Dillard had an RBI single.

Mike McCarthy allowed one hit over six innings and Johnny Welch hit his third home run of the season to lead the Medford Americans to a 7-1 victory over the Mooney Dental Tanners.

McCarthy hit a batter and allowed a single in the opening inning before settling down and pitching perfect ball the rest of the way, departing after six full.

Colin Barnicle mopped up in the seventh allowing the lone Tanner run on a Keegan DeNapoli RBI single.

Welch drove in two with his fourth inning homer. Jake Christman had two hits including a double and drove in two American runs. Mike Burgoyne had an RBI single. Steve Napier, Ryan Maguire and Steve Tahmoush collected the other Medford hits.

Cassell starting all-stars, Zach Golden and Josh Klimkiewicz continued their torrid hitting with 2 hits each. Golden had 1 rbi to add to his league leading total and Klimkiewiczhad 3 rbi's including a double to the deepest part of Trum Field. Alex Sosnowski pitched well for the Americans.

Steve Tahmoush had three hits to drive in three American runs and Keith Pescosolido hurled five innings of five hit, six strike out, two run ball in his first ICL start to earn the victory as the Americans dispatched the Chiefs by the score of 6-2 at Playstead Park.

Pescosolido walked the first two batters he faced in the bottom of the first and both scored. He then settled down and threw four shutout innings before being replaced by Nolan Boike, who pitched a scoreless sixth.

Ryan Maguire closed the game with a perfect seventh inning of work.

Tahmoush's three hits led the way for Medford. Mike Burgoyne, Johnny Welch and Steve Napier each added two hits to the American cause.

Chief RHP Mike Lanciani gave up only one hit over three full innings but the Chief bullpen was unable to hold down the Americans.

Cassell Club scored three unearned runs in the top of the sixth and withstood a seventh inning Medford rally to escape Playstead Park with a 6-4 victory.


Brian Donahue limited the American offense to a pair of runs through 4.1 innings to record the win for Cassell. Tim Dunphy worked the final 2.1 innings to earn the save.

Jeff Keefe fell to 2-1 on the year for the Americans allowing six runs, three earned, over 5.1 innings. The earned runs were the first allowed by Keefe on the season.

Kevin Donahue had three of the ten Cassell hits. Tim Dempsey and sizzling Zack Golden had two hits each.

Sam Shaughnessy led the American offense with three hits including a double.

Mike DiCato pitched a complete game three hitter and Mike Andre homered to lead the Andre Chiefs to a 6-1 win over the Medford Americans at Playstead Park.

Alex Sosnowski took the loss for the Americans. Colin Barnicle entered the game with two outs in the first and pitched 3.2 innings of two run ball. Mike McCarthy followed, allowing no hits over the final 2.2 innings.

Andre's homer, a prodigious, three run clout to right in the first, his first of the season, was all the Chiefs needed.

Following a Charlie Pagliarulo single and a run in the first inning, DiCato was touched for only two more hits, fourth inning singles to Ryan Maguire, who was promptly erased on a double play grounder, and Steve Napier.

Sean O'Brien had three of the eleven Chief hits. Jim Buldini and Jeff DeCarlo each had two. Justin Crisafulli, Doug Heald, Richie Montecalvo and Andre had the others.

Buldini's pair of clutch, two out hits plated three.

The Gately offense proved too much to handle for the Medford based club, knocking in 11 runs in 6 frames.

Every man in the Gately lineup had at least one hit. Bruinsma, Salvia, Gath and Stokes each had two hits. Bruinsma and Gath had a pair of RBI's. Bruinsma, DeCesare, and Stokes all whacked extra base hits for the A's.

The Medford team's offense was suppressed by the tough nosed pitching of Gately starter Derek Cotoni and cagey veteran closer Jon Drew.

Down 7-1 after four innings and 7-3 after five, the Wakefield Merchants scored nine times in the sixth and twice more in the seventh to defeat the Americans by a final score of 14-8.

Wakefield pounded out 15 hits in the game and were aided by five Medford errors.

Derek Falvey logged 2.1 innings to earn the victory in relief of John Spidel. Kevin Flight pitched a scoreless seventh for the Merchants.

Orazio Azzarello recorded a tough luck no-decision leaving with a 7-3 lead after going five full innings, allowing three runs, one earned, while walking four and striking out one.

John Davison drove in three runs for Wakefield. Rob Papenhouse and Dana D'Agostino drove in two. Davison and D'Agostino led the hit parade with three each.

Sam Shaughnessy led the American offense with a single, double and long home run to right center field.

Medford's Johnny Welch tied for the league lead with his second home run of the season.

Gately RHP, Jack Baird, allowed only one run while pitching seven innings of 3 hit ball and catcher Billy Gannon drove in the two Gately runs leading the A's to a 2-1 win over Medford at Playstead Park.

American LHP, Orazio Azzarello, with relief help from LHP, Jeff Keefe, matched Baird pitch for pitch as they combined to toss a 3 hitter at the A's.

Gannon had two of the three Gately hits. The first, an infield single to SS in the second inning drove in 1B, Bill Manley (BB), from third and made it 1-0. His second hit, a bloop single to left in the fourth, scored 3B, Mike Roberts (HBP), increasing the Gatley lead to 2-0. DH Tony DeCesare singled in the second for the third A's hit.

Third baseman, Charlie Pagliarulo, 2B, Johnny Welch, and DH, Steve Napier, collected the three American hits. Napier drove in Pagliarulo with the lone Medford run when he grounded out to SS in the sixth.

Watertown Reds RHP, Dave Martin, and Medford Americans LHP, Orazio Azzarello, hooked up in an old fashioned pitchers' duel at Playstead Park where the Reds minimized the damage from a pair of late American rallies to return home with a 1-1 tie.

Martin went the distance for Watertown allowing just the one, unearned, 7th inning run on six hits while walking two and striking out four.

Medford's Azzarello matched him pitch for pitch through 5.1 innings, allowing an unearned first inning tally and just two hits. He walked one and struck out six.

Keith Pescosolido worked the final 1.2 innings for the Americans retiring all five batters he faced while registering two strikeouts to earn his second tie.

Ryan Maguire had two of the six American hits.

A's starting pitcher Jack Baird threw masterfully over 5 innings, scattering 3 hits while striking out 4 and giving up only 1 run.

Jesse Bruinsma , the A's leadoff man, had a hit, an RBI and a stolen base. Catcher Billy Gannon also had added a hit and a stolen base. Leftfielder Ben Dashefsky provided two hits, a stolen base, and the game tying RBI bringing home A's first baseman Brendan Stokes.

In the third game of the opening round of the Jeri Deangelis Tournament, Ryan Maguire pitched five innings of two hit, shutout ball as the Medford Americans overcame shoddy final inning defense to escape with a 6-4 victory over the Woburn Dental Tanners.

Maguire (1-0) struck out seven and walked two, lowering his ERA through eleven innings to a paltry .640. He has allowed only three hits in those eleven innings.

Keith Pescosolido pitched a scoreless sixth before Alex Sosnowski took over to start the seventh. Orazio Azzarello worked the final third of an inning to earn his first save.

Steve Tahmoush (2 hits) drove in a pair of runs while Joe Hallanan and Steve Napier drove in one each for the Americans.

Mark Infurna went the distance on the mound for Woburn striking out eight.

In the first meeting of the season between Medford based Intercity League rivals, Medford Americans and Andre Chiefs, the Americans, down 2-0, rallied for a pair of runs in the home half of the 6th before settling for a 2-2 tie.

Marist College bound Medford American RHP, Ryan Maguire, pitched a tidy, 83 pitch, one-hitter through six and helped his cause with a clutch 2 run single up the middle to drive in the tying runs. Mike McCarthy pitched a hitless and scoreless 7th for the Americans to preserve the tie.

Merrimack College's Mike Lanciani did his best to match Maguire, allowing only 2 hits to the Americans before being lifted after 5 shutout innings.

Merrimack College 3B Mike Andre recorded the only Chief hit with a clean line drive single to center in the 2nd.

In his Intercity League debut, Saint Anselm College southpaw, Jeff Keefe, twirled a no-hitter for the Medford Americans, leading them to a 5-0 victory over the Gately A's.

Keefe, in total command throughout, walked 4 while striking out 7 and allowed only one ball to be hit out of the infield, a lazy fly to left field in the final frame.

Merrimack College righthander, Josh Sohn, took the loss, allowing 4 hits through 4.1 innings of work, walking 3 and striking out three.

Lexington started its defense as two-time champions with a 3-2 come-from-behind win over the Medford Americans.
Down 2-1, due to a two-run double by Medford's Ryan Maguire, the Blue Sox rallied for two in the fourth as Jake Dillard with an RBI single and Bryan McDavitt with a sacrifice fly (his second RBI of the game) drove in the tying and winning runs.
Bill Cooke earned the save by striking out six batters in his two innings of work. He entered the game in the sixth with runners at first and second and shutdown Medford.
Andy Sweeney scored the first and third runs for Lexington out of the ninth spot in the order.
Jon Igoe went 5 innings, scattered 5 hits, walked 1 and struck out 4 to get his first win of 2006.
