Avi Nelson Rockies 5, Milton Breakers 3
After losing in the finals the previous 2 seasons, the Avi Nelson Rockies are the 2023 Masters Division champs
Ethan Solomon picked up his teammates to overcome some early defensive miscues, throwing a complete game gem.
As he has done all postseason, Mike Barthel continued his assault on opposing teams, this time from the batters box. He went 3-4 with a double (could have had 2 if not on a hobbled leg), scored a run, and drove in 2. Ted Brovitz had a gritty at bat in the 7th, sharply singling in the winning run. Solomon added an insurance run with an RBI single and then shut the door in the 7th.
Congratulations to Brian Bennett and the Milton Breakers on a hard fought series. |

Avi Nelson Rockies 3, Los Gigantes 0
The Game 3 storyline lived up to all its hype and then some as Los Gigantes sent this season's Cy Young winner Yulkin German to face off against last season's (and 2-time) Cy, the Avi Nelson Rockies' Ethan Solomon. Both pitchers were dominant. German extended his season-long 0.00 ERA through 7 innings. Solomon was equal to the part, also posting zeroes through 7, pitching out of several tight jams. The 8th inning was packed with a game's worth of drama.
With German going out for the 8th, he got 2 quick outs, continuing to silence the Rockies offense. Jason Ackerson drew a 2-out walk with Joe Tufo coming up to the plate. German's first pitch fastball is sent deep into the left field corner but does not bounce over the fence, allowing Ack to score from 1st on a very close play at the plate. Carl Rodriguez follows Joe Tufo's double with a line drive single to center that scores Tufo, making it 2-0. |
