After a game 1 slugfest, game 2 ended up a 10 inning pitcher's duel. Arvin Nunez got the ball for the Marlins and threw 6.2 innings with 10Ks and no earned runs. For the Rays, Walker threw 9 innings striking out 8 after allowing his lone run in the first.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Rays looked to have won the game on a Pizzaro single to centerfield, but Scot Leslie came up firing and hosed the runner at the plate. Finally, in the 10th, the Marlins got to the Ray's reliever with Sean ONeill hitting a single up the middle to bring in two runs. ONeill also closed out the game throwing the last 3.1 innings to get his second win in as many games. It didn't come easy as the Rays loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom half, but a Zach Barry leaping catch and 2 popouts sealed the victory for the Marlins.
The Marlins lead the series 2-0. |

After the Baby Fish jumped out to a 2-0 lead, it was all Rays for the next 2.5 innings. The Rays scored 7 in the 3rd and blasted two solo home-runs in the top of the 4th leaving the score 9-3 going into the bottom half. From there, the Marlins started chipping away by scoring 4 in the bottom of the fourth. Going into the bottom of the 6th, trailing 9-7, reigning MVP Anthony Shea ripped a double down the line and a misplay by the left fielder allowed for both runners to score knotting the game at 9s. Then Jerome Harkins hit a ground ball to SS that allowed for Anthony Shea to score the go ahead run. Sean ONeill took the ball for his 5th inning of relief and got the Rays to go down 1-2-3 to cap an impressive come from behind victory. The Marlins jump out to a 1-0 series lead. |
