Mitch Philibert improved to 2-0 in the post-season with his second complete game win of the series as the Havoc defeated the Pirates 2 games to 1 and advance to the 28+ semifinals.

Jordan Siu was hit with his 19th pitch of the season in the first inning, advanced to third on a Chris Dowd single, and stole home on a double-steal when Dowd took second. This gave the Havoc a 1-0 lead.

The Pirates tied the game 1-1 in the 4th inning when John Burnheimer and Nick Packard singled and Jory Curran hit an infield slapper that couldn't be fielded cleanly.

The Havoc made the score 2-1 on a 5th inning RBI sac fly by Dowd, scoring Romello Carbuccia who had previously singled.

Up 2-1 in the 6th, the Havoc added some insurance when Paysa Garcia hit a 2-RBI rope down the 3rd base line, scoring Brett Rudy who ran for Omar Ortiz who had singled, and Alex Strempel who singled.

Bay State Pirates 0 0 3 0 0 0 3 6 8 1

The Bucs send their apologies to the schedule maker - and live to see another day! Erasing two 2-run leads, the home team walked off with a 3-run 7th inning over the Havoc at Trum Field on Thursday Night.

The Havoc struck first, plating two in the third inning before the Pirates struck back in the bottom half with 3 runs. But the Havoc immediately answered to retake a 2-run lead in the top half of the 4th, thanks in part to a 3-run double by the Havoc first baseman Chris Dowd.

Nick Packard was the offensive star in the late innings, ripping two doubles and eventually scoring the tying run. With the Pirates emptying the bench in the 5th inning, Pirates legend Paul Aseltine was thrown into the mix with a couple of key late-inning at-bats. The Pirates' 17-year veteran answered the call going 0 for 0 - working a tough walk before being stranded in the 5th, but then hitting the game winning walk-off sacrifice fly in the 7th inning.

 Summary | Box Score
Final 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 R H E
Bay State Pirates 0 0 0 0 3 0 0 3 10 7
Boston Havoc 2 3 0 1 0 4 x 10 12 3

Mitch Philibert threw a complete game to lead the Havoc to a 10-3 win, giving the squad a 1-0 lead in the best-of-3 quarterfinals series versus the Bay State Pirates. Mitch walked nobody, and pitched to contact all game, while striking out 4 batters.

The Havoc highlight was a 4th inning Hectik Garcia 350-foot home run that hooked just around the left field foul poll and hit the building across the street. That gave the Havoc a 6-0 lead at the time.

While the Pirates banged out 10 scattered hits, they scored all 3 of their unearned runs in the 5th inning on a series of fielding and throwing errors. This brought the game to a tight 6-3 score.

But in the bottom of the 6th inning, 1 hit, 2 walks, an error, and 3 hit batsmen enabled the Havoc to score 4 more runs and put the game out of reach.

Game 2 of the series is Tuesday night!

Boston Havoc 0 5 1 2 0 0 0 8 14 1
Bay State Pirates 0 0 0 0 2 5 0 7 6 4

What began as a Havoc blowout with an 8-0 lead entering the bottom of the 5th inning became an epic comeback by the Pirates, and a nail-biter down to the last pitch. The Havoc held on to win, 8-7.

Seth Perkins (3-1) got the start for the Havoc and was cruising along with a shutout until the 5th inning when Nick Packard hit a 2-out 2-RBI double to make the score 8-2.

Of the Pirates 6 hits, 3 came in the 6th inning when they rallied together 5 more runs to make the score 8-7.

After 2 quick strikeouts by relief pitcher Adam Anderson in the bottom of the 7th, an error and HBP put the tying and winning Pirate runs on base. Anderson struck out the final batter for his 4th K in 1.1 innings of work, and his 1st career save.

Of note, Jordan Siu went 3 for 3, and was HBP for his 13th time this season, 1 away from the BMBL season record. Patrick Valdes also had 3 hits.

Boston Bombers 9, Bay State Pirates 7

 Summary | Box Score
Final 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 R H E
Bay State Pirates 3 0 0 4 0 0 0 7 8 5
Boston Bombers 1 0 1 7 0 0 x 9 10 6

The Bombers used the longball to erase a 5-run deficit and earn the comeback victory against the visiting Bay State Pirates by a final score of 9-7 at Noyes Park in East Boston.

Jory Curran's 2-run home run off starter Brian Saffelle gave the Pirates a 7-2 lead heading into the bottom half of the 4th inning, but the Bombers responded promptly. Veteran Jonny Hayes launched his first home run as a Bomber to make it 7-4. A 2-run double by Ted Dziuba brought the Bombers within 1, setting the stage for David Lightbody, who put the Bombers ahead for good with a 3-run bomb to LF - his 37th career dinger in a Bombers uniform.

Brian Saffelle settled in after some shaky team defense early on to secure his league leading 9th victory on the mound. Anthony Del Prete slammed the door shut with a 6-out save.

Bombers improve to 14-2 with their 12th straight victory. Pirates drop to 11-7 but remain in striking distance of first place.

Bay State Pirates 4, Cambridge Spinners 1

 Summary | Box Score
Final 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 R H E
Bay State Pirates 0 0 0 1 0 1 2 4 7 2
Cambridge Spinners 0 0 0 0 1 0 0 1 3 1

The Pirates get back into the win column with a big win over the Cambridge Spinners Thursday night in Malden at Pine Banks. A pitcher's duel brewed early and things were even out of the gate. Both teams had chances on offense but the Pirates broke through in the late innings with all of their RBIs coming off the bench. Jory Curran had a key go-ahead RBI walk in the 6th and Todd Elkin had a big 2-run single in the 7th to get some insurance.

The Elkin and Shikora battery shared the bounty of the Pirates chest - the Pirates backstop called a great game behind the dish for his pitcher, who went the distance on the mound. The final line for Shikora was 7 innings, 0 ER, 6 Ks, while scattering 3 hits and 4 walks. Unfortunately, he was unable to add to his league lead in hit batsmen.

The Pirates are right back at it on Sunday against the Boston Bombers in East Boston at Noyes Field. First pitch is set for 10:00AM

Once the little leaguers were kicked out and sent home packing, The Pirates started off with a bang in the first inning as Dan Brookfield launched a solo homerun over the left field fence. Word on the ship is that he hit the dinger to compensate for his small hog.

Ian Sales returned to the mound for the visiting Pirates and gave another complete game effort - surrendering 5 hits, 2 ER, 1 walk and striking out 12.

For the Mustangs, the bright spot was a 3 run inning capped by a John Sholl 2 run single.

Chris Holland laced a go-ahead double in the decisive 5-run seventh inning and caught a laser line drive to end the game in the bottom half. Nick Packard went 3 for 4 with an RBI and John Burnheimer chipped in two hits with a run scored.
