It was a long day of baseball yesterday for the Royals. First up was a continuation of a suspended game that started back on June 6th. The Royals and Cubs were tied going into the 8th inning when the game was called due to light curfew. Fast forward almost two months and the game continued Sunday morning in Weymouth. Brian Burke took over on the hill for the Royals and Tom McDonald took the ball for the Cubs. It was expected that it would be a quick conclusion either way but the two pitchers battled back and forth for 6 more innings of scoreless baseball. And in the bottom of the 13th inning, Burke delivered yet another walk off single giving the Royals a 7-6 win. That made two walk off's for Burke this weekend with the first one coming Friday night against the Mariners.

However, the Royals mounted a big comeback to take the lead in the 5th when they plated 5 runs, capped by a 3-run homer by James O'Neil. The Pirates appeared to turn an inning ending double play just moments earlier, but the ump questionably called the Bucs first basemen off the bag.

The Bucs bounced right back in the top of the 6th, plating 4 runs off of Royals closer Eddie Lockhart. Paul Aseltine ran into more trouble on the mound in the 6th, but was relieved by rookie Matt Lucia who got out of the jam and went on to pitch a scoreless 7th inning to secure a Pirates win.

The Bucs pounded out 15 hits with doubles by Andy Burkett, Jory Curran, Todd Elkin, Dan Brookfield and Nate Fishman. Tyler Jackson also chipped in with a great line, going 4 for 4 with 3 RBI, 3 runs and a stolen base.
