The Royals kept rolling Thursday night beating the Pirates 17-2. Matt Bui (W, 4IP, 2H, 2R, 2ER, 3BB, 3K) picked up his 6th win of the year. Mike Ahearn (1-1, 3R, 3RBI, BB, 2HBP, 2SB) and Steven Rivela (3-3, R, 5RBI, HBP, SB) were both perfect at the plate. Scott and Bryan Weber each added 2 hits and 2 runs scored and Cormac Sullivan had an interesting night at the plate where he walked, was hit by a pitch, and reached on an error but still managed 2RBI and 3 runs scored on the night. The Royals look to keep the win streak going when they take on the Gators this Sunday in Canton.

Since losing two straight to the Mariners in early June, the Royals have popped off 5 wins in a row, with their most recent win coming yesterday against the Bay State Pirates. After going up 3-1, the Royals couldn't hold the lead and gave up 6 runs to the Pirates in the bottom of the 4th. Matt Bui (W, 2 1/3 IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 3K) came in relief and stopped the bleeding and then the Royals retook the lead putting up 5 runs in the top of the 5th. On the day, the Royals offense pounded out 12 runs on 15 hits and got multiple hits from Mike Ahearn, Ryan Ritell, James O'Neil, and Bryan Weber.

The Pirates were again victorious in Game 2 in a rain-shortened game at Lexington High School. Bucs battered Braves pitching for 10 more hits while receiving 8 walks.

Andy Burkett was superb in relief of Nate Fishman, getting out of a third inning jam and holding the Braves two only 1 more run the rest of the way as the rain moved in.

The Pirates swashbuckled their way to a win in Game 1 banging out 17 hits. Todd Elkin and Brian Benulis led that way with three hits each, while Jackson Schuyler, Dillon Search-Wells, Andy Burkett and Jory Curran each had two.

Paul Aseltine battled on the mound for his second win of the season, striking out 6 batters. He slipped up a bit late, but held on for the win, overcoming 3 triples by Connor Marr who starred for the Braves.

Clean defense and strong pitching from Andy Burkett led the Pirates to victory over the Red Dogs. Brian Benulis led the Bucs offense with 3 hits, while Dan Brookfield chipped in 2 more hits of his own and Jory Curran stayed red hot with a mammoth RBI double in the first.

In game 2, the Senator bats exploded for 7 runs in the third inning to grab a lead they would never relinquish. Chris Holland paced the offense, going 3-3 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI. Pat Dempsey walked 3 times to take over the league lead with 10. Jason Erhardt went the distance for his third win of the season.

In game 1 of the doubleheader, pitching was the story. Senators starter, Tim Belanger, had to removed after just 1.1 innings with discomfort in his arm. Christian Nashawaty took over and threw the final 5.2 without giving up a run to pick up his first win of the season. Chris Holland, Tyler Waterman, and Kevin Jones each contributed 2 hits in the victory. Pirates starter, Paul Aseltine, turned in a complete game effort, giving up just 2 earned runs.

The Pirates broke out in game 1 of the doubleheader. Dan Brookfield was the star, going 2 for 2 with a double, walk, run, RBI and stolen base. He also picked up a hold as a LOOGY in support of starting pitcher Nate Fishman who logged a solid start in the win. The Cubs clawed back in the 7th, but Aseltine came in to shut the door late.

Cory Enayat is pulled off the bag in the 7th inning.

PEABODY -- Mariners' pitchers Jake Mingels and Nick Malatesta dominated on the hill in Peabody on Friday night, giving up only two hits to division rivals and fellow seamen the Bay State Pirates. The top of Norfolk's lineup did the job and provided enough runs for the win. Mayor of Peabody Ted Bettencourt could not attend the game due to a oversize scissors ribbon cutting ceremony at "Not Your Average Joe's" new Peabody location, but congratulated the Mariners on their victory via his live journal.
