Sun, 4 June, 11:30AM, at Palmer Cove - Salem (Game 2 of DH)
Norfolk County Mariners 8, Malden Dodgers 0
SALEM -- In the intermission, the Mariners smallest player, Billy Hunt, stepped up in a big way by negotiating the delivery of pizza to the field. Head Umpire Ed Macarelli helped himself to an unprecedented 3 pieces - considerably more than the suggested allotment. Given Macarelli's rocky history with Hunt, the Mariners let it slide as a peace offering. The pizza was devoured quickly, but Norfolk County was still hungry, as they feasted on Dodgers pitching. Led by Jon Cushman (3-4,3R,2RBI,2SB) & Paul Everett (3-3,2B,3RBI,BB) the M's scored 8 in the first 4 frames. DJ Goldberg tossed a casual 5 scoreless on his way to his 2nd win of the day. The broomsticks were out following the sweep, a welcome sign in Salem, as the Dodgers pondered when they will wake up from the haunted nightmare that is their 0-9 start to the 2017 season. The Mariners left the field feeling "wicked good" as they improved to 5-1 |

Norfolk County Mariners 10, Malden Dodgers 1
SALEM -- The weary Mariners, many of whom haven't slept in their own beds in weeks due to the current road schedule they've been on, have proven to be road warriors in 2017. "We sleep when the CABL tells us we can sleep.." said a groggy Bobby Zahner, shortly after his 80 minute journey to Palmer Cove for a 9 AM game 1 vs. the equally tired Brookline Dodgers. The exhaustion showed early for the expansion Dodgers as they committed errors early and often behind solid pitching. The M's capitalized by plating 10 in the first four frames. Jesse Stanley, who's no stranger to black magic (thanks to his gypsy roots) looked quite comfortable in Salem, collecting 5 RBI on the day. Mariner's starter GK Goldberg continued his winning ways, throwing 5 scoreless before giving way to manager Connor Brown who mopped up the last 2 frames in his first appearance without getting shelled in six years. |

Pepperell Red Dogs 12, Malden Dodgers 2
After 4 straight road games, the Red Dogs finally opened the home portion of their schedule at friendly Nissitissit on a beautiful day for baseball, while also being a beautiful day for Red Dog hitters, and especially starting pitcher Jeff Tully.
Tully carried a no-hitter into the 7th inning, but was broken up by a line drive single to left by Steve Lippi of the Dodgers. Tully finished the day giving up only the one hit, while striking out 5 and walking 3.
It was also a great day for Red Dog hitters, who put up 12 runs on 10 hits, and showed a lot of plate discipline, walking 9 times. The offense was shouldered primarily by Jimmy Stecchi (1-3, 2B, R, SF, 3RBI), Eric Guild (2-3, 2R, SB, 3RBI), and Rob Mershon (1-1, 2BB, HBP, 3R, RBI). Jeff Tully also contributed to his own cause in the bottom of the 6th, with a hard hit 2-run double.
The Red Dogs now turn their attention to one of their North Division rivals, the Beverly Indi |
