The 9-seed Quincy Pirates eliminated the 10-seed Cambridge Thunder in Thursday night's play-in round of the 2016 CABL Playoffs in Peabody. The Bucs kept things close with some timely hitting early on before breaking things open in the fifth to support starter Andy Burkett, who went the distance for the win. The Pirates will now meet the 1-seed Norfolk County Mariners on Sunday in Saugus.

In need of a win to clinch a playoff birth, the Quincy Pirates gave the ball to veteran Paul Aseltine, and he delivered 6 strong innings surrendering 1 unearned run. He was aided by an 8 run 5th, which saw the Pirates bat around and put the game out of reach. The Bucs won 6 of their last 7 games to clinch a playoff spot.

The Quincy Pirates topped the Pepperell Red Dogs Thursday night in a game with huge playoff implications. The Bucs sent Andy Burkett to the hill and he was opposed by Ryan Baldinelli. A sloppy game all around, this game was decided by the bullpens as Aseltine came in to record a rare save and Jeff Tully picked up the loss in relief.

The Pirates sent veteran Paul Aseltine to the mound against the Cubs on a rainy day in Boston and he delivered a complete game win. Aseltine allowed base runners but pitched brilliantly out of jams to keep the Pirates playoff hopes alive. Billy McGee pitched well for the Cubs but some 2 out magic got the Pirates offense some runs late. Andy Burkett led the way going 3 for 3 with a double and 2 runs scored.

Andy Burkett continued his stellar run of night game pitching, holding the Titans to 2 runs on 4 hits in a complete game win. Jackson Schuyler, Jose Gomez, Todd Elkin and Nate Fishman powered the offense with 2 hits apiece. Titans lefty Cam Beaulieu pitched well - battling out of some tough jams in the loss - but the Pirates unrelenting attack took the lead for good in the 7th on an RBI single by Gomie (J-Dot).

The Quincy Pirates came back from a 13-7 deficit in the 7th inning, scoring 7 runs on 9 hits in the inning to win the game. Both teams struggled on defense due to poor field conditions on a hard surface in a hot dust bowl like atmosphere. Nate Fishman was the star, going a whopping 5 for 5 with a triple, 3 runs scored and 2 RBIs including the game ending walk-off single.

The Quincy Pirates snapped a five-game skid on Thursday night as they used a full team effort to down the Thunder in Melrose. Eddie Lamb picked up the win in his first career start for the Bucs while Andy Burkett, Nate Fishman, Jory Curran, and Jose Gomez paced the offense. Dillon Search-Wells was lights out in relief, but the Thunder mounted a late rally against lefty specialist Adrian Frattini. But Burkett came into a bases loaded, one-out jam in the seventh and fanned two to pick up his second save of the season.

After coming off one of worst losses in team history, the Pirates battled to a hard fought win against the first place Cardinals. Fielding only 9 men with many playing out of position, the Bucs won 5-4 with Andy Burkett pitching a complete game win. Andrew Ostashen had the go ahead RBI single in the sixth and helped turn the game saving double play in the 7th to preserve the win.

The Pirates take the trip from the South Shore to the North Shore to take on the Giants who look to make it 4 in a row. Giants get started early plating 6 runs in the first. Robert Kimber gets the wheels moving early, driving in the first 3 on his 2nd round-tripper of the year. The Giants' bats were just relentless from there on and would score 19 more over the next 3 innings. Joe Kasper would hit his first homerun of the year in the 3rd, a no doubter to right. John Surette gets the win on a shortened game and goes to 2-1 on the year. Giants claw back to .500 with the win and get the Royals in Canton on Father's Day.

The Royals outslugged the Pirates in game 2 of their double header Sunday. Leading the offense were Brian Williams (2-3, 2R, 2B, 5RBI) and Ryan Ritell (3-4, 3R, 2 2B, 2RBI). Starting pitcher Tony Leyva left the game in the 3rd with a knee injury and we relieved by Justin Chere. The Pirates added 5 runs late in the game but the Royals answered with 3 more in the bottom of the 6th to help secure the 14-8 victory.

The Royals shut out the Pirates 11-0 in game 1 of their double header on Sunday. Ryan Bowen (W, 5IP, H, 0R, BB, 2K) kept the Pirates bats off balance all game. Jimmy Selig (IP, H, 0R, K) made his 2016 pitching debut in relief and closer Eddie Lockhart pitched a scoreless 7th inning striking out 2. The Royals offense exploded for 11 runs on 14 hits and stole 8 bases during the game.

The Pirates and defending champion Mariners engaged in an epic back-and-forth battle in Hyde Park, with the Bucs picking up the walk-off win in extra innings on their old home field. The two teams put on a show with the bats, with Jose Gomez (3-4, 2B, 2 runs [including the game-winner], 3 RBI) leading the way for the winners. Andy Burkett picked up the win in relief, pitching on just two days rest.

After suffering a tough loss against the Gators, the Pirates gave the ball back to night game starting extraordinaire Andy Burkett and he delivered a solid performance. In a deadlocked pitchers duel, two key RBI knocks in the 6th proved to be the difference and the Pirates held on in the 7th for a 3-2 win to improve to (2-3).

Pitchers duel with Garthe edging out Burkett. Watkins provided the bulk of the Gator offense with an RBI double in the 3rd and scoring on an overthrow after stealing 3rd in the 6th. The Bucs strung three consecutive hits together to begin the final frame, but Garthe and the Gator defense held them to 1 run, earning the win.

The Cardinals completed the DH sweep of the Pirates with a 4-2 victory. Matt Sliney (W,1-1) threw 5 scoreless innings while striking out 4. Anthony Tempesta finished the last 2 innings surrendering 2 runs (1 earned). The Cards started the scoring in the 2nd on a double by Comeau which was followed by a Dan Belanger RBI single. In the 3rd, Coffey and Marshall were plated on a single by Trenteseaux and sac fly by Finnegan. The Cards got their 4th run on Dan Belangers 2nd single capped by an RBI single by T.Dedrick. The Pirates got 2 in the 7th but was not enough as the Cardinals escaped with the victory.

The South Shore Cardinals tallied their first CABL League victory against the cross town rival Quincy Pirates. Tim Belanger (W,1-0) threw 7 strong innings surrendering 2 runs (1 earned) while striking out 9. Mike Marshall paced the offense, scoring in both the 1st and 4th innings. The pirates responded with two of their own in the 4th to tie the game. In the 5th the Cards rattled off 3 straight hits which was capped by a 2 run single by Tempesta, scoring Waterman and Lucini. The Cards plated an insurance run in the 7th as Trenteseaux drove in Tempesta on a Sac fly.

The Quincy Pirates turned to ace Paul Aseltine for his 10th-straight Opening Day start, and the veteran delivered once again. The righty pitched six strong innings, allowing just three hits and no walks while striking out 10 as the Bucs downed the Methuen Rangers 4-1 in Roslindale. Nick Buote battled on the hill for the visitors, but a few timely hits from the Pirates proved to be the difference. The Bucs improved to 1-0 while the Rangers fell to 0-1.
